Yup the book only states low fat cheddar - so I guess any will do - I love cathedral city lighter too. I buy whatever's on offer then sit and grate the huge blocks to freeze :D

Oh that's a good idea, but knowing me I'd end up losing my fingers - me and graters don't get on so well lol

It's a job I hate karen! Seriously detest it - I have about 4 different kinds of grater in the house but none improves it, lol. But grating makes it go further plus it freezes easier than blocks - and when they're on offer I couldn't eat it all by myself!

    Hi Everyone!

Well done to this weeks losers :j and a big hello! to the newbies :j

Today is an original day :D

B - 2 slices wholemeal nimble (HEB1) with 2tsp of clover lighter (2syns) cup of tea with milk from allowance (HEA1)

L - 6 wholegrain crackerbread (HEB2) with ham 3 mini babybel light (HEA2) 1 ex light laughing cow (1syn) 1tbsp of pickle (1syn) 2 bananas and some lychees

D - prawn salad with 2tbsp of asda extra light mayo (2syns) sweetcorn in salad (1.5syns)

    Total syns 7.5.

Can someone clarify something for me... My dad cooked a lamb biryani using the new sharwoods mix (tom and cumin) I got the nutrition info and put it on syn calculator (friend gave me this weeks p/word :D) and i have worked out the whole jar to be 9.5 syns on all plans... this seems a bit low to me! Is the syn calculator accurate?? I think the sauce would be great for a weekend family treat! Does anyone else think this is ok?
All hail to the sale!!!!!!

Can someone help me settle an argument with oh about having to buy lean meat please? He's insistant that I can use normal minced beef and just drain off the fat and it will be the same as lean mince, but I don't believe him lol

    Hi Karen

Obviously the leaner the mince the better.
However in our class there is a lady on a very low budget & she asked the consultant if she could use ordinary mince. The consultant said as long as she dry fried it & drained it thoroughly then she could as it was the same as removing the fat from a piece of steak. If she didn't bother then she wouldn't get the results she was after.

When you go to the supermarket line up one of each (value, minced beef,Steak mince & Healthy living mince) you can judge by the colour what one is better.

I go for the last two but thats a personal choice.

    Jo

Hmm I'd say it seems a bit low for a jar as they usually have oil in them - 7 syns is average for a packet which is why I thought it might be that.

    Found it - http://www.sharwoods.com/indian/products/sharwoods-tomato-and-cumin-biryani.cfm
It does have oil in it but pretty much all the other ingreidents are free so not sure sorry!
Though the Bhuna is mainly free too and that's nearly 20 syns.

thats what i thought! It does have a little tub of spices with it but looking at the ingredients its just spice...

    The ingredients are -

Ingredients Tomato & Cumin Sauce (97%): Water, Diced Tomatoes (20%), Diced Onions, Tomato Puree (9%), Modified Starch, Chopped Coriandr, Garlic Puree, Ginger Puree, Sugar, Salt, Vegetable Oil, Spices, Ghee (Contains Milk), Lactic Acid, Ground Cumin (0.2%).
Spice Blend (3%): Ground Cumin, Kashmiri Chilli, Cumin Seeds, Ground Cardamom, Ground Turmeric, Ground Clove, Ground Bay Leaf, Fenugreek Leaf.

But its only 45kcal, 6.7g carb, 1.6g fat, 0.8g of protein per 100g- which is what i put in the syn calculator and worked it out as a 432g portion?
All hail to the sale!!!!!!
