Social Phobia and work?

I read a report once which found that the most effective way to make shy people appear confident was to ask them to approach situations acting as a confident person would, they found they could then keep this up - sounds silly, but why don't you give it a try? Try "acting" (after all, that's all I do as a teacher is to "act" angry / disappointed etc, and most people really are not as confident as they make out) as if you were a professional businesswoman or a Sex-in-the-City-type, but make sure you dress for it (make it easier to adopt the role). You never know, it might work!
I did this once. This was when Jose Mourinho was in his 'prime' at Chelsea - he was constantly appearing arrogant in the press (or to some, very confident), and was unfalable (sp?). At the time, I had an interview, during which I was also interviewed by the MD of the company. Obviously, a daunting experience, so I decided to 'act' in a 'Jose mourinho' fashion (I didn't call myself 'the special one', but probably came close), appearing arrogant rather than my usual self (shy, low on confidence etc). I was actually rather pleased with how it went, and didnt get stuck once (and got the job)I do feel in some situations it is good to 'put on an act', as it can get you through some tough tasks. I haven't done it since though, maybe I need to adopt this approach more often.
