July benefit challenge -here we go

If we had no jobs, there wouldn't be a debate between M&S and Matalan, we'd just wait for the Matalan sale
We have a Tesco, Aldi, Lidl, butcher and greengrocer all within very short walking distance, town is about a mile and a half way so we're in a perfect postion for shopping.
Emmzi's my inspiration :Tali007 wrote:Mr Troo causes more problems on here than anything elseBulletproof0 -
My opinion... is only my opinion!
Use vouchers to buy shirts, of course. That's a sensible real life decision.
Deduct Matalan price UNLESS they are work shirts in case ignore them (so long as you have one pristine untouched interview outfit in wardrobe.)
Although I would deduct Asda price, where work shirt = £3.50 for me...Debt free 4th April 2007.

Ahem. Well, the dinner's aren't the problem.. but the desserts all seem to go in 2 days!!
£62.09 minus nice round fiver for cinema = £57.09.
£3.60 a day. STILL haven't bought cotton.. favourite skirt and dress lanhuishing, unable to wear.
Old me would have bought new ones and binned these because you cn't take ripped things to charity shop...Debt free 4th April 2007.

Good thread Emmzi, and takes a lot of guts.
I actually speak to people who survice on this amount weekly. I work in a benefits office when I am not trade unioning(I do 1 day a month anyway, still counts ;-)
I may point them in your direction for some help.
Keep it going.0 -
I've been reading these message boards for months, but this weekend is the first time I have posted.........have just read all of this thread with interest, I seriously need to cut right back at the moment, so if you don't mind in August I might join you on this assignment!!
Well done so far, I can't believe how little you are managing to spend, you've done really well.

This is my third month doing this.. failed the first two. It's taking a bit of time to change thinking and stop feeling the need for a daily spend.
Of course if you've been reading for a while, you'll know we DFW nerds would like your SOA to see if we can help! Feel free to start a thread for yourself
Ok.. off to see b/f. Am taking
- home made bread
-stir fry veggies
- noodles
-cheese
for dinner tonight, and work sarnies tomorrow. Might manage a no spend today, but promised to go for after work beer tomorrow.. would have just over 7 quid for that... might persuade mate to split a bottle of house white as that'd be a fiver each.
I WANT CIGARETTES AND I CAN'THAVE THEM! GRRR!Debt free 4th April 2007.

BS, was that an answer for someone or just a general comment? I was just re-reading the whole thread and you've thrown me :rotfl:
We lived on benefits for a few months - mr troo was made redundant when miss troo was 2 weeks old. I think this thread makes you realise what's important and what isn't, also that there's a massive difference between wants and needs.
It also gives you a kick up the bum :rotfl:Bulletproof0 -
emzi, mrs.troo you are doing great this month ..emzi i'm looking at your meal planner and thinking of nicking some..(attempting a shopping challenge with lynz and co this month) is that ok? noticed you mentioning cous cous ..any other nice food from lidl/aldi you can recomend? never shopped there but this month i will be thanks0
