All those saying "the police won't pull you over for no reason" should either try driving an older car that's seen better days, or change their skin colour to black.
Why bring colour of skin into the argument? This thread is about the OP being pulled over and accused of using a phone - even he didn't comment on his skin colour. And as you state that you are not black, you are not even qualified to make such a comment0 -

If you have a SERIOUS issue with being pulled over, then you can make a complaint to the chief of Police.
However, as others have said - it is more likely that an older car will have defects than a newer car.....and maybe your driving style would give cause for concern? Why does nobody say Thank You anymore??:mad:Debt Free as of September 2011 :jSealed Pot 2009 number 334 - £100 Saved! yey!!Sealed Pot 2010 number 334 - £116.51 Saved! The first thing they'll do is give that reason. If it was because of the phone then they must have seen it in the driver's hand prior to the stop.
Most definetly but according to the other poster the reason the police stop some people is for fun, they have a scratch on their car or they are black.
If you get stopped they will tell the reasons for being stopped, wheter it be because they believe you have committed an offence or they are doing stop checks. They aren't likely to say "Because I felt like it" or "Because you're black".Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0 -
The Police don't pull you for skin colour/age - unless you look like a child/ or because the car is tatty.
They WILL sometimes pull you for car defects eg light out - if they have time.
They WILL pull you for erratic driving whether excessive speeding or weaving all over the road etc because you might be drunk.
They WILL pull you if they did have previously arrested you and know you're still banned.
They WILL pull you for unsafe loads or if your car is down on its axles because you could be carrying stolen copper or lead.
But they will follow you for a bit and do a moving vehicle check on the vehicle. That will tell them if it is insured etc and if the registered keeper is known to them or not. A tatty but safe, insured and taxed car owned by someone with no record most likely won't be stopped unless there are other contributing factors such as the time or night or matching a vehicle involved in an earlier crime.
HTH
But to the OP.
You were using your phone. Tough luck. If you don't like the penalty don't do it again.

The police must have pulled the OP over for a reason whether it was for something else or whether the OP isn't telling the whole truth which is up to them but since they posted asking for advice they should tell the truth so correct advice can be posted0

And I'm not black. I didn't say I was black either. Just another wrong assumption you made!
True pendulum.
But the statement you made makes out that you are qualified in quoting it when i fact you are not,you got pulled over because you either made an error in your driving that caused concern to the Police, you car looks unroadworthy,or because you may have been flagged up by the PNC because your car has a marker on it,the police have far better things to do than pull you over for no reason at all.
I certainly support the Police's efforts in getting unroadworthy, uninsured, unlicensed dangers in society off our roads, and the more the police pull over and crush the offenders cars the better.Forum spellcheckers are the pitts.0 -
Thanks Spike, out of interest why is Officer deemed to not be appropriate as I know most people use this term believing it is the correct and polite way to address.
Dont know to be honest, however I pulled up a army officer cadet (OTC) for calling me by my surname without adding my rank, which is Seargent,as by not useing my rank,he was being disrespectful to me.(I'm TA)0 -

Pay the fine and accept the points, lesson learnt and I doubt you will do it again.
It's also cheaper to buy a bluetooth headset for future you'll save atleast £40 compared to the fine and the insurance increase.[/
I can't understand why so few people have bluetooths, they are £10 in Tesco.
I was tailgated  in the snow, by a woman with a fag in one hand & her phone in the other:mad::mad:
If I had seen a police car I would have flagged them down & complained about her.0
