So why did you not charge your phone overnight before you choose to take your child out in the snow for a 20 min walk to a supermarket?

Cos she's human, a stressed mother not feeling too well, has a small child and needs stuff for the shild, has nobody at home to help her, got confused and didn't think it all through clearly. She's not as perfect as you seem to expect her to be.

But the store clearly still didn't bother going out of their way to help her - and that equates to p*** poor customer service!

Ignore posts like those made by "gordikin" in this thread - clearly trolling.

The problem was a consequence of an ill trained "greeter" who should have sought management assistance immediately.

I would write to the named manager of the store and also, if that does not achieve success (which it will), contact the local paper.

Oh what a headline (not), shops and other customer service points aren't payphones, we only need to provide facilities to make 999 calls and that's it. Most big shops have taxi ranks outside them or a line specifically for the taxi company. The greeter isn't psychic nor are they doctors, they have internal phones on them for security purposes and the one in question probably should have pointed the OP in the direction of the customer service desk but that's about it.

perhaps you could of shopped on line? i assume you have internet as you say you contacted them via their web site. Now as i wasnt there i cant comment but... staff are responsible for phones, if there is a "outside" call and they were on duty they would be responsible and sacked as its an offence. and as someone else said othe majority of the phones you see us using on the shop floor are only internal phones.

Perhaps a little forward planning may have been a good idea and maybe dad could have taken you, gone for you? etx.

having said all that there is no excuse for bad customer services...

  • I would have expected someone to offer some assistance, agreed not ASDA responsibility but surely as it was a mother and child in difficulty (however unwise her decision may have been or not to venture out) common decency and compassion would have not gone a miss!!

About 7 years ago my dog managed to get out on her own.

I received a phone call two hours later from a local store: they had seen the dog outside the store, they caught her and read the name and the number on her collar.

They called me and told me that they had my dog. I explained what had happened. They kept the dog safe whilst I collected her.

    The store was Asda.

Asda was one of the first stores in the UK that developed shoppers bus services to facilitate access for people who would not otherwise be able to take advantage of their low prices.

I wonder if Asda has lost some of its accessible charm since the Walmart takeover. This is just a general feeling but the stores seem to be less well managed than they used to be. They have also I think lost their community links. Some Asda stores used to host community events for pensioners for example.

Some of them now even charge shoppers for short stay parking (? Farnborough).

I would suggest the op speaking to or writing to the store manager by name and explaining the circumstances. An avoidable problem could otherwise happen to someone else.
  • The Asda store where I work still hosts a Christmas party for the senior citizens and takes a couple of coach loads to the sea side in the summer. We also have Bingo once a week for them. For the children we have Christmas and Halloween parties as well as lots of school based projects going on. We also host family fun days.

Oh dear, Mummy forgets to charge phone and it's now Asda's fault? WHY! Asda has millions of customers who can shop without phoning daddy...get over it and take some responsibility!
  • Wow, silly Asda, yes you must complain in the sternest voice that you couldn't be arzed to take your phone with you knowing you was ill.
