If you've got up early every morning for 50 years (from age 15 to about 65), turned out in all weathers, no matter how you felt. Were stuck at work during all the good weather, unable to just kick back and relax .... then when you retire, just mooching about doing nothing must be fabulous. Finally ... after all these years ..... there's no piper who wants him to dance.

I'd leave him be.

I agree PN. The best thing about retirement is not having to do things but choosing to do them.

But I think the point is this chap is choosing not to do anything. Thats why his wife is worrying about him.

Maybe he's extremely happy being busy doing nothing after working for years.

Well I assumed a long term partner would know whether it was something to worry about or not.
