  • Always taken the pill and wouldn't do anything else. Was on Microgynon for awhile but then a year ago the dr said i needed to change as had been on it awhile and was concerned about my weight.

I switched to Cezarette and its the best thing i ever did. I had slight spotting for the first month of taking it and then my periods stopped altogether. I feel loads better for taking it and have lost 2 and half stone now, which i think has contributed to how i feel, no more PMT and feeling rubbish, just feel great.

i had depo for a while ( between sons 2 and 3) and it worked fab, no periods nothing. but it did give me for quite a few months mornign sickness feeling, sore boob's. so came off it.

Had the patch for a while. loved it. no side effects ( you have to ask for it as it not widely known about, it like a plaster you stick it on 7 days later change it then every 21 days removed it and have your period) but had to stop it as after a few months i became allergic to it.

Been on a few different pill's. the one i'm on now seems to be the best. no side effects at all. no hormonal swings, no loss of sex drive. periods cane be a bit erratic tho and are alot lighter. however i did fall preg on it ( lost it tho). but i am still taking it and my body seems to have really settled down and into a routine. i don't plan on taking this one long term tho. maybe for another yr max then take things from there.
  • I was on Mercillon between the ages of 19-26 and switched to the implant in August last year, mainly because I didn't want to have to take time off work every six months to get another lot of pills. For the first three months, I seemed to have a bleed every two weeks or so - I was seriously considering having it taken out. But I stuck with it and haven't had anything since November. OH comments that my moods are better now, too.

  • If you are/were taking Dianette for skin and wanted to stay on the pill, see if you can get "Yasmin" prescribed. That's supposed to be good for skin too but the only problem is that it's so expensive. I think I read somewhere that it's £13/14 a pack compared to Microgynon which is about £3 a pack, so some doctors will be reluctant to prescribe it.

All the pills I've tried seem to make me feel ill all the time but I don't like the idea of the injection or implant due to you not being able to stop the symptoms like you can by just stopping taking the pill if you react to it. Hopefully I will find one that my body can actually cope with one day.

No-one mentioning the diaphragm?! It's 'hormone' free, side effect free and easy to use.

It also offers no protection against STI's so you'd still have to use a condom as well. Although that's true of all the hormonal contraception too unless you've both been tested, but a diaphragm AND a condom seems like a lot of prep work that could really kill the mood!

Eek I've had the implant fitted today and now starting to wish I hadn't. How long would it be until I would get any side effects (if any)

Don't sweat about it. There's as many positive experiences here as bad, and people don't usually pipe up unless it's to complain :p

Thats true. My implant turned me into a fat moody cow, but my best friend stayed skinny and had two with no issues :D
