What kind of contraception?

  • Hi

I started the depo jag after I had my son (he's 8 1/2 now). Bit of weight gain with it but no periods! I decided to change to the Mirena coil and apart from the initial discomfort of having it fitted I have had no problems (and again no periods).

I did consider the implant when I started with the depo but my surgery didn't do these.

Personally speaking if you're not planning a family and need reliable contraception I would def consider all of the above - remember they are all reversible.

  • The best I have found is not to have sex!! Yep, that's right, if you are trying for a baby (get this...we are!) then no sex is the way to go!! (no bedroom action since beginning December.....df changed his mind perhaps????)
BTW, that's all true above, slightly off topic soz, in all seriousness I have been on many pills, had depo, would not recommend depo, had bad time on it..bled for 58 days non stop! But everyones different. Last one I was on was cerazette and that was ok for me.

  • I was on Microgynon for a while, it seemed ok at first but then I realised I had ZERO sex drive, no interest in doing anything really day to day, and would snap for no reason, cry for no reason (felt like constant PMT), changed to Marvelon but was the same. Now just using condoms and feel so much better after coming off them!

Yep this was me too and I had no idea either, came of it and felt like a sex maniac! Now though I've started (well maybe) a new relationship which means I have to start thinking about this again. Condoms are a must, I'm a belt and braces girl, but rather reluctant to mess with hormones again so everyone's experiences have been really useful!

I started on Microgynon but it gave me bad PMT, spots and lots of spotting. Then I went to Cilest but that caused a constant period for over a month! I'm now on Tri-Novum and have been for 2 years, no problems. Cos I work shifts I find the best time for me is to take the pill at about 9pm, it fits in with every shift! lol

It's been interesting reading this thread, whenever I go for my pill check they seem to want to pressure me into using the coil, implant or injection! Best just talking it through with your dr/nurse to see what options you have. Good luck!

There's no point in asking us, as you can see we all have different experiences on the same things & your gonna be different to anyone else, MrsT for example doesn't like Depo, for me i'd be dead without it & it's a miracle drug, we're all different

    Hi all,

I was on combined pills like my Microgynon for a while but it gave me such bad PMT I was becoming uncontrollable and very aggressive, which made me hazrd especially working with aircraft!!!!! I switched to Cerazette which made me ultra mellow but after 2 yrs killed my libido, Noriday was next and was a brilliant balance but again after 2 yrs I was bleeding 3 weeks out of 4. I had an additional smear and it was all clear. I then moved onto to Depo, I was quite wary as some lasses I knew turned them a bit psychotic but I have had no issues with it. It can take a couple of cycles to settle down but I am now hormonally stable, happy and very few bleeds.

It can take a while to find the right contraception but it's well worth the trip when you find the right one.

    Hope this helps

Obviously everyone's different... but I really, really would not recommend Depoprovera (the injection). I was on it for 2-3 years and became completely paranoid and depressed. I lost all interest in sex so such a extent that I couldn't even contemplate kissing a boy! The only saving grace was not having a period... bliss!!

I am Yasmin right now and it seems to be fine for me. I don't actually take is as contraception, more just to regulate my periods and make them lighter.

Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.

No-one mentioning the diaphragm?! It's 'hormone' free, side effect free and easy to use.

I had the injections and same as most had mood swings and massive weight gain it actually stopped my periods completely.

Until i was pregnant with my new bubs i was on the patch evra i think its called bit like the pill but you change it once a week instead of taking a pill every day. :-)

Implant-constant heavy bleeding, led to anaemia. Hated the damn thing.

Injection-weight gain but stopped periods. Liked it but came off it due to weight gain.

Combined Pill-microgynon 30-worked ok but had to comeoff it due to my BMI

POPill-seems ok but having random spotting

I do wish they'd stop pestering me about going on a LARC

I really don't want the coil as the procedure seems too invasive and painful for me
