I got a leaflet at a Health and Fitness show for Crves gym, over 240 clubs in the UK, phone: 0800 130 0544.
www.curves.co.uk
Offer is for 'free' week. but then has in little writing :
Free week may be redeemed on first visit or exchanged for special membership discount. Not valid with any other offer.
So looks like you can only use the free gym offer if your totally new, and otherwise can use it as an offer to discount your membership.
It looks like the 30 mins in gym- I cannot do that- I'd need more! Is anyone here a member? is it possible to spend more the 30 minutes (more like 30 minutes per machine would be better)0 -

I hope you don't mind me asking, but how much is Esporta membership? There is one within 30 mins from where I stay and am hoping it's better value for money than the others in my area.
Thank
hi, I've just joined esporta and i had to pay half price admin fee which was £40 and i got rest of Jan and Feb free all so 3 sessions with a personal trainer plus two children free on my pass, and a free gym bag with towels and earphones water bottle t shirt, plus 6 day passes worth £15 each and a £40 beauty voucher to use by end of march. i am paying £57 a month and free to go any time . how ever my friend joined a few days before and she got no joining fee and when i asked they said they couldn't wave it but its half price which was odd as the day after i joined the joining fee is now free again so I'm a bit peed off but it is a lovely place and i will get my moneys worth. just wished id joined a day later would of saved £40 how ever i think that's why she chucked in the beauty voucher, fantastic if u have kids who will use the gym and swim as they have classes along side the kids classes my child loves it, its a year rolling contract and u have to give 3 months notice before u can terminate the contract. the drinks are expensive but deals on food which is good value and nice. im a student how ever my mate isnt and she still managed to get it at a so called student rate so i think she haggled harder than me .... good luck0 -
fountain_of_knowledge wrote: »well how embarassing can you get, after reading a few posts and seeing that you can haggle for a gym membership, with contract length, monthly cost and joining fees, i decided that i was going to join my local La fitness in Kings Heath Birmingham. i called and arranged an appointment, i arrived at the club was warmly greated and offered a tea or coffee, asked to fill in a information card and was greated by the club manager (very cute!! lol) and then was shown around the club by the sales advisor (again very cute!!!) the club is good, clean great atmosphere, friendly staff and members to whom i was introduced to, nice pool adequate gym and plenty of classes and something called "the la experience" or "kickstart" which is going to help me change my life!!! all looked great, im thinking im geting a bargin here!!!! so sit down with the sales guy and go through the prices 37.99 and half price starter fee 25.00 not bad but im gonna get that down, i haggled for 15 mins the sales guy did not budge, i asked to see the manager (surely he could lower it he is the boss after all!!!!) god he is cute!! we talked for 5 mins, he asked did i like the club, did i think that they could help me achieve my goals i said yes,and yes to lots of other questions, he then said lets get you joined up then ... i said no, he said why i said to expensive, he said the price is what it is, we offer X,Y and Z, drop the joining fee he said sorry its half price, we are giving you a £100 starter pack(which they actually do and its full of nice stuff too!!!) so what happened you ask??? i did not join although i want to!!! and not cause of the two cute guys i saw, its a nice club has a lot going on, i feel embaressed that i haggled for so long and got no where.
SO MUCH FOR SALES TEAMS WANTING THEIR COMMISSION, MANAGERS BEING ABLE TO NEGOTIATE FEES!!! you see the sales are all done on online computers so the prices are fixed, the manager can not cahnge them, the sales ppl cant change them , the price is what the price is, i am going back at the end of the month when i get paid to join, so if you do get a deal then think urself very lucky!!!! oh well i suppose i get to see the cuties every day!!!!! lol
I used to work as a sales advisor for LA Fitness and we could never change the prices, most people don't believe you but it's true unfortunatley:o:oIn 2009 i finally gave up smoking Have been smoke free for 3 years!!!!!!

Thanks Chaz for the info on Esporta: it looks like a great gym but is a little out of my price range, particularly for being so far away. I appreciate the info. I'd quite like to join Fitness First but have had a lot of horror stories about direct debits continuing to come out months after quitting membership and people being chased by baliffs so that doesn't fill me with confidence. I live in Glasgow and besides the local council gyms (which are full of kids) I can't find one that is suitable. Grr!0

I am a member of the Glasgow Club wich gives access to all the council gyms, have you tried different ones as I find it depends what time you go in. January is usually a nightmare with everyone deciding to get fit but usually gets quieter Feb time:oIn 2009 i finally gave up smoking Have been smoke free for 3 years!!!!!!

Thanks Coco, that's reassuring.
I've been a member of the Glasgow Club in the past and went to the Bellahouston gym which, along with the Gorbals, is the closest to me although back then (a couple of years ago), the Bellahouston one didn't have great facilities and was swarming with kids which was a bit annoying! Have you tried any of their other gyms?
Thanks again x0 -
i'm thinking of joining the gym group!!0

Thanks Coco. As far as I remember, the Bellahouston one was pretty huge and since I last went, have heard it's been done up so I think it's a lot nicer than it used to be. Just got back from an introduction to Greens Gym. It was nice but the girl was disgruntled when I said I wanted to look around a bit to compare prices. It's £40 a month off-peak, is that good? I didn't want to make any irrational decisions so said I'd get back to her for time to think.0

LA Fitness were doing peak hours cheaper than that but I'm not sure what Greens off peak hours are, it does seem quite a lot for that type of membership, i looked into them about 18 months ago and was offered 40.00 peak membership, private gyms all have huge targets in January thats why she would have seemed like that, talking from experience there is alot of pressure to sell especially in January:):oIn 2009 i finally gave up smoking Have been smoke free for 3 years!!!!!!
