I've just bought a Breville 3.5 litre slow cooker, having had a Rival Crock-pot previously but broke the bowl a while ago. I hadn't got rid of the base and lid as originally I was intending to buy another of the same make. I've now found out the bowl and the lid for the Breville are exactly the same size as the Rival Crock-pot, so if the base packs in I'll use the old one!

Anyway I digress, the reason I went for the Breville this time as opposed the the Rival, is the Breville has a light which shows when it's turned on. Also the bowl is black as opposed to the previous one which was white and got stained easily.

I think the lid fits much better on the Breville than the Rival, which used to splutter a bit.

There's only 2 of us so the 3.5 litre job is fine. I've cooked meals for 4 in it as well.

  • Thanks very much ladies for the help, I threw it in this morning on top of a chopped leek, celery and 2 chopped carrots with about an inch of water. I am just about to take it out, and the dog is going nuts, so it must smell good. Looking forward to see what I can get out of it. :D

I've just started off some granola in the slow cooker, apparently it's a really good way to make it. I'm making orange, walnut and cranberry granola from a slow cooker recipe book I found in the library.

Bought my slow cooker from argos today :D It was supposed to be the 3.5l cookworks one with 20% off, but was given a "similar" one which had a porcelain pot yay! For once a replacement product has worked in my favour as the ones with porcelain pots were all double the price.

In my small one, chicken breast pieces, rose wine, garlic, onion, leek, 4 baby plum tomatoes, mushrooms, and carrots. I'm using up some odds, and ends in my fridge.
  • I'm thinking of cooking lamb shanks....again! Just add some yellow pepper, tin toms, stock cube, some rosemary, thyme. Add fried/caramerised aubergine, a handful of raisins and sliced almonds one hour before finish cooking. Delish!

It depends on how you obtain it and how you use it.

Wow, that is first time I heard different use of SC. Would you mind sharing how you make it? How did it come out for you compared to the conventional method? I love HM granola, shop bought stuff are over priced for what it is.... probably the packaging.

You got me all excited. I'm even more glad that I bought SC.

  • We have a 6.5l cooker, which serves our family of between 4 and 7 well- if it's just the four of us I'll make loads extra & freeze. However, four of us will be off in our dinky caravan in late October to Alton Towers, and as the park won't be closing til 9pm, hubby & I discussed coming "home" to something hot & healthy from a smaller slow cooker. So, I've been keeping my eyes open for a cheap & cheerful 3.5ish litre job. Hubby called yesterday to say he'd stopped off at a boot fair, so I reminded him to keep his eyes open for a smaller slow cooker.
He found one...bless him. It's only about 1.5 litres! It is very sweet though- looks like it belongs in a dolls house. I'm now trying to think of some sort of "purpose" for it :)
