    Ok, daft question time.

Can I put stuff into the slow cooker the night before and just switch it on in the morning? Does it all have to be covered in liquid or anything?

I fill the crockpot and leave it in the fridge sometimes then just pop the pot into the housing before switching it on when you`re ready.

Mine goes on overnight a lot because we have a cheaper rate of electricity at night and i often prep the food in the morning and leave the crock in the fridge all day.

  • Hi guys,

I'm thinking about getting a slow cooker after seeing all these yummy recipes! Me and OH work fulltime but as he commutes from London the dinner always seems to be my responsibility, so would be lovely to be able to flick a switch in the morning and come home to a tasty meal :)

Is there any brand/version that you guys would recommend? I've looked on the Which report website and it recommends a Breville model at £30, but all the customer reviews say it cooks at way too high a temp and spoils the food. I'd be looking at something around the £30 (or cheaper!) mark though. Any advice appreciated!!

I`ve got two :D the Morphy Richards 6.5 litre one and the Te$co value 3.5 litre one for a tenner. They are both great. The MR one does seem to cook a bit quicker but i use the low setting for most things on both cookers.

The MR one was about £25 on offer when i bought it. I like the oval ones best because i can get things like a whole chicken in easily or a turkey leg etc, i think it would be difficult in a round one. Just wait until one is on offer and give it a try, if its not what you expect (ie cooking too fast)you could always return it and try a different one.

I got this one recently as I didn't want to spend too much as a beginner! It has a low & high setting as well as a keep warm setting. Have only used it a couple of times, but very happy so far! HTH
