The chicken tasted amazing, but the whole thing fell apart in quite an offputting way when I took it out :(

I didn't mind that when I did mine but I really didn't like having the smell of chicken in the kitchen all day! :( Maybe I'm weird

Ah, I know what you mean. I was out all day though so it didn't really bother me.

I had to spend quite a bit of time finding all the little bones and making sure none ended up on the plates. I didn't think I was at all squeamish about meat until yesterday!

I've got a curry bubbling away, a vege one
Just got anything in there, assorted frozen veg; about half a dozen different lentils and some tofu.
There were no jars of sauce in the cupboard this morning so i mixed some spices in a tin of tomatoes.
The mixed sauce is only a top-up anyway.

I put mine on a small round trivett/metal teapot stand and this keeps it out of the juices. It is slightly easier to extract but still falls to pieces.

    Hi all!

I dont really use my SC enough since I became a veggie. Does anyone use quorn mince in theirs? is it ok as I know you aren't really supposed to cook it a lot or it goes tough.
I'd also like to do something with some pearl barley if anyone has any ideas:)
    Do what you love :happyhear

  • have just snaffled a delish chicken casserole made by my oh. some free range chicken pieces( still on the bone), swede, carrots, onion and celery. All served with some ready made whoopsied mash (24P) and broccolli. Really simple but the nicest slow cooker dinners in a while. :D
  • Just done my first ever 'rubber' chicken in mine, i was worried it was going to fall to pieces when i removed it as it had been in for 12 hours :rotfl: but the use of a serving spoon and a pasta spoon got it out in one piece :T just have to motivate myself to make a pie and a casserole tonight now as well as the chicken dinner we are having

  • Hey folks,

Contemplating buying a slow cooker, as i live alone and think it will making cooking decent meals much easier! However, I have a few questions:

    1) Do you need to brown the meat first? Do u do this before you go to work or the night before?
    2) How do you know how long to put it on for? I normally leave the house at 7:30am and return sometimes half 3, sometimes half 5!
    3) Can you use jar sauces as well as things like gravy and stock?

Any hints/tips/advice about buying a slow cooker would be much appreciated!!
