Well just emptied out a huge batch of chilli. Loads of lentils used to bulk it up. I have 16 meals out of it so am now cooling them off before freezing. It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0

What's in my slow cooker? A massive flipping crack, that's what
. Only lasted 2 years, previous one lasted about 20 .

Been reading this thread all morning, bought my first slow cooker yesterday! Some great inspiration here.
I have a question I was wondering if you could help please? If I want to do something with mince (eg shepherds pie or bolognese) do you have to brown the mince first or can I just bung it in??
Thanks!!0 -

I think it's personal choice. I like to brown mine on the hob and then I can pour off any excess fat. Sometimes I completely prepare it on the hob and pour it into SC when it's bubbling. Other times (when I'm in a rush) I just do the meat and onions on the hob, drain fat and then put all other ingredients straight into SC.0 -
I use turkey mince so I don't brown it off. I put some olive oil in the bottom of the SC, turn it on high and add chopped onions and garlic. When they are softening, I add the mince for about half an hour on high, then add the rest of the ingredients.
I've also done the `bung it all in at once method`, and that worked fine too.I believe in the freedom of spinach and the right to arm bears.

I made roast chicken with vegetables and potatoes in the slow cooker. First time I ever used my slow cooker since buying it earlier in the week. All I can say is wow, can't believe I never bought one earlier!0

Tonight was chicken breasts and ratatouille, which was lovely! Too much ratatouille for the three chicken breasts, next time I'll do six. The leftovers will go in the freezer, though.
. The other thing I'd do differently is fry off the onions before hand, I just threw everything in, but the onions were still a bit crunchy.
Skader, I know I wish I'd got one earlier as well!Good enough is good enough, and I am more than good enough!:j
