John Torode's Braised Beef Shin casserole - with reduced quantities and no trotter . Should be Tom Kerridge's recipe though as it smells proper lush :D.
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

  • Sounds nice Gallygirl but too much alcohol in there for me...I really dont like cooking with alcohol dont know why as I am happy to drink it. :rotfl:

How did you reduce the quantity did you just half it?
  • I currently have a gammon joint cooking in cider and spices (cloves, cinammon sticks etc) I shall do a tray fo roasted veggies and potatoes when I get in and then thicken the cider sauce on the hob to go with it. It's too big a joint for just us two so some will be had cold with mustard in sandwiches tomorrow and the rest will go in the feezer. Happy days!
Everyone has a dark side... apparently mine is called Harold?!?

From the amount of people reading and contributing to this thread I should say YES.
I have a small crockpot for one portion meals, and a large 6.5 l, It depends what you like to do ,I love cooking and freezing, this week I have been eating out my freezer, as busy. I have had spag bol, ox heart stew, curry, lasagne, none of which I would have found time to make, just pop it back into the slow-cooker, and it will be reheated for when I am ready to eat, I stock up on the foil dishes from the pound shops....
Do I need it or just want it.

This thread inspired me to buy a little tiddler (1.5 litres) in a charity shop (BNIB) about two months ago to see if it would be useful to have one, I love the little thing. I don't cook a lot of meat, but I've been buying and freezing whoopsied beef for casseroles to cook in it when the weather is vile, but in the meantime it's been pretty constantly used for chickpeas, simmering root veg soups and yoghurt. I absolutely love the yoghurt it makes - and all for one hour on high.

If you can find a small (or cheap) one in the sales or secondhand, (unwanted gifts at this time of year) I'd give it a go if you're interested. This thread is an absolute gold mine of information on what you can do, how you do it and what works best. Love it.
    Better is good enough.
