I just posted a new thread for this, but maybe I should ask here too, since you seem to be all about the slow cooking on this thread!
Hi ladies/gents,
I reckoned that you over here may be best placed to help me out with this question.
My sister has just bought a slow cooker, which came with the Hamlyn slow cooker recipe book. She thinks this book is rubbish!
I would like to get her a better one for Christmas, but I don't really know where to start. I use my slow cooker all the time but I don't use recipes, just bung things in.
Can anyone recommend a book they have found really good and made lots of recipes from? She is 30, to give you some idea of the sort of food culture she is used to.
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer0 -
I have loads of cook books, but nowadays tend to find a recipe I like the look of on-line, this is a good site.https://www.facebook.com/CrockPotLadiesDo I need it or just want it.0

I have browned sausages, onions, garlic, herbs and gravy with cabbage, mixed peppers and mushrooms in my slow cooker. I have some Yorkshire puddings in the freezer that will go with it.
An unusual combination but the peppers needed used up in the bottom of the fridge. It will taste nice no doubt.£36/£240

I've got two Ham Shanks in mine today - they'll be on all day while I'm out.
Already got veggies (carrots, onions, parsnips, swede, leeks, celery) peeled & prepped. When I get back home, I'll remove both shanks plus around half of the water, add the veg with some herbs, Ham Stock Cube, Vegetable Stock Cube, pearl barley, red lentils and cook them for around 7 hrs (overnight). Potatoes may have to be cooked separately as I don't want them 'to fall' too much. I'll then add around three quarters of the meat from the shanks back into the 'stew' and make some dumplings. I call this 'Shank Scouse with Dumplings'.
My slow cooker is 6.5litres - so this makes a huge amount. Only two of us, so we'll have a good meal from it and then I portion the remainder up into lidded tubs for future 'ready meals'.
The remaining stock goes to make 'Yellow Split Pea Soup' along with the remaining meat. The majority of that will also go into the freezer.
I've also got some Oxtail Pieces and Lamb Pieces (all whoopsied) and will make Stews out of both lots somewhere in the next few days - no potatoes added to those as I served them up with mashed spuds.
That will then be my freezer well-stocked with 'good, hearty winter meals' for the next couple of months.0 -
In mine today will be (when I've finished a much needed coffee!) chicken and squash marsala. Will be having it with rice, peshwari naan and popadoms.
