I forgot to pre-soak them, so did them for a short while in the pressure cooker before chucking into the SC. I would have used the pressure cooker for the soup BUT you need to be careful with pulses as they can boil up and block the 'pressure vent thingy'.

To tell you the truth, I think I'd have got away with just putting them straight in the SC ................

I've no idea on quantities as I had 2 part-used packs and just threw them both in, with three small finely-diced onions. The SC is 6.5litre and was about half full. It was just one of those 'throw it in and see' recipes and luckily, it worked out great :D.

I kept back some of the cooking liquid from the PC just in case the finished soup needed some extra liquid, which it DID need - pulses can be such unpredictable things :).

I'm glad I was at home 'to supervise' things - would have hated to have been out at work all day.

Gammon joint in mine to slice up for packed lunches etc...much cheaper and nicer that pre pack ham IMO!
  • Help!
Just got a bargain slo-cooker in the charity for the princely sum of £4!
I was going to cook some chicken legs this afternoon for the meat to use in a curry tonight, but obviously I now want to put them in the slow cooker, prob on high for 4hours. How do I cook the chicken legs without them drying out? I'll probably make stock out of what's left, so any tip about doing that in the SC would be useful.
    Thanks x

In my experience with the slow cooker nothings dries out.. more of the contrary, a lot of liquid stays! So as long as there's enough liquid to cover the chicken legs, the same liquid will be there after the 4 hours...
  • How exciting, not only a bargain slow cooker, but just seen this...

  • I got a slow cooker for Christmas and have got it on for the first time today. Don't know why I didn't do it sooner! We were given some pheasant so that is in there with bacon, button mushrooms and some dumplings. Now just gotta go peel some spuds and in a little while we can feast! :D
