Yesterdays turkey was a big success - both girlies had seconds and asked if I could do it again! £1.47 for the drumstick and the veg was in a stew pack for £1 - too right I'll do it again!!!
there was a bit of meat left over and enough juice with veg in to make 2-3 portions of soup (might add some curry powder to liven it up). All the meat slipped off the bone so I don't think its worth using it for stock.
    One life.

I sometimes soften the veg first using the microwave - easily done while prepping the meat.
    Try cuting the veg smaller?
We had some swede and no matter how we cooked it it came out really fibrous. Sometimes the veg is just not the best..
  • Yesterday I made some chick stock in mine - after Sunday roast dinner, I stripped the chick carcass and lobbed it in with 2 carrots, celery, an onion- damn just realised I forgot the onion, but I did remember the herbs - thyme, bay, rosemary and parsley, and a good pinch of black peppercorns. Left it going for 4 hours after dinner until bed, and turned off then but will only strain it tonight when home from work.

I also have beef pieces for a stew on wednesday this week. I intend putting these with some beef stock, an onion, garlic, a carrot, some leeks and borlotti beans (both HG and frozen), and some thyme - perhaps a dash of red wine or tomato puree. Leaving this cook on low while we are at work and enjoying with mashed potato.

I have gammon in mine today which will be sliced and used cold for packups. It smells lovely. I'd like to make the stock into pea and ham soup but I've never done it before. I've got some dried peas soaking, i'll add them when I take the gammon out along with a couple of onions. WIll that make a decent soup? ANy tips woulod be appreciated!!

You can just use frozen garden peas.

i have made with a handful of sugarsnap peas thrown in just before blitzing and it adds a nice bit of sweetness,

also a big glug of mint sauce before blitzing works well
