must try something other than joints
quick questions got a huge 6.5lt slow cooker and just wondered could I cook 2 chickens at the same time? the 2 for £7 sized ones they fit in there but are touching the sides so wasnt sure if thats ok? and if so do i need to cook them longer or roughly the same as a single?
thanksthis year do something that scares you for courage is not the absence of fear just the knowledge that some things are worth the risk0 -
I got a slow cooker for Christmas and have spend the last few weeks trying to work out what to put in it.
I finally did caramelized onions in it yesterday, thought you couldn't go too far wrong with two ingredients and once I understand how it works can try something a bit more exciting. They did come out just like the picture :j but they are really sweet, they taste like they have sugar in and they don't, not sure if I like them yet.
Today I want to try some kind of potato see how that goes (really adventurous I know!), but I haven't decided what yet, any suggestions gratefully receivedSo so SO tired of being ripped off, and mislead
Hope sharing saves some pain.0 -

Ive got a chicken and veg soup in mine, cost £4 to make and will feed 16 people (ive got 7 people in family and it will do 2 sittings for each person and my B-I-L will take 2 portions away with him tomorrow for him and my sis)
The only set items that go into the soup is a:
packet of stew mix (swede,carrots,onions,parsnip)
handful of mushrooms
couple of sticks of celery
dried soup mix (peas, lentils, barley and pasta)
A packet of tipped chicken wings
Mixed herbs
Any stock I use is from previous chicken meals and i boil up the carcass, then freeze the stock or if ive not got any ill use a few oxo cubes and any sauces from the cupboards like woucester sauce or mushroom ketchup.
Makes a very hearty and filling soup!0 -
Jacket potatoes - for the first time ever. I'm a bit nervous as never cooked anything dry in it I put 2 big potatoes - pricked - bit salt and wrapped in foil bout 10am on low is it ok to leave it till bout 8pm? Do i need to turn them? At the moment there sat on the folded bit of foil, does this sound ok? Will they crisp or do i have to do anything else to them? Sorry for all the questions but this is a first for meLiving the simple life0

To be honest I just make it up! I fried a couple of onions till soft, put in SC with 3 large sweet potatoes chopped up, a regular potato chopped up (just thickens it a little), some crushed garlic, seasoning and stock to cover. Stuck it on low for 4 hrs or so (or whenever potato is cooked), then blended with some milk - would have used cream if I had it.0 -
anyone know about the potatoes? Worried there still a bit hard! Should I turn them up?Living the simple life0

All gone now, but I had some rolled stuffed breast of Lamb (£2.99 from Rosspa), on a bed of frozen 'soup mix' veggies from Lidl (99p, only used about 1/4). Cooked for about 4 hours, took the meat out, finished off in the oven for about 40 mins with some roast tatties, and in the mean time added some garlic granules and blizted the veg mix and stock to form a sauce/gravy. Served with said Roast tatties, lightly cooked fine green beans and baby spinach - went down very nicelyPlease forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.0
