Popped in a gammon joint from Xmas and the last of the mulled wine; will be interesting to see what it's like. Will add other seasoning as necessary!

I have a ham hock and lentil soup in mine. Now I can't find my stick blender.
If you make chutney in the SC do you need to add less liquid does anyone know?

I've just come across this thread, absolutely great, what fabulous recipes.

I'm a advocate of SC's I have 3 small and one 3.5L. The small ones are really useful as there are only two of us. At the moment I've an egg custard going in one for pudding for tea, a beef casserole in another also for tea and some giblets in the third (found lurking in the freezer) for the dogs, and that was after I made pate with the livers using the SC as a Bain Marie.

I'll definately be back here to see what tips I can pick up
  • zafiro could you please share the recipe for the egg custard. It's sounds lovely.

    Thanks!

Just one more little question ... I cooked chicken legs in a small casserole dish in the proper oven a few years ago. Because I overlapped them the ones on top didn't cook. Should I have the same problem with the SC? Do they need to be in one layer or will they be fine?

HI Claregre - i just pile them all in and they are fine, it doesn't matter if they overlap in the SC, happy cooking :D

I`ve done both ways when i made chutney as i was unsure what to do at first, the first batch had the full liquid in and i cooked it on low and them turned it to high and took the lid off, i was using the 6.5 litre one so you can imagine just how long it took to reduce - around 24 hours :rotfl: but it was gorgeous.

The second time i put about two thirds of the liquid in and made less chutney and this time used the smaller 3.5 litre cooker, this turned out lovely too, Both times the cookers were filled to the brim and i wasn`t sure that i would get the lid on properly :D

Either way i preferred it to standing over the cooker with a pan on the hob for ages.
