Sorry to be a pest - I'm intrigued as a newbie - what is Yassa please? And how do you make it? x

Hi Mojoworking, welcome to MSE :)

    Yassa is a Senegal stew.

    This serves 4 people:
2 medium onions, 3 cloves of garlic, 50ml of lemon juice, 1/2 teaspoon of salt, Cayenne pepper to personal taste. I use 1 teaspoon but I like hot. A full chicken cut into 1/4s, touch of oil spray.

Put everything in the slow cooker and give it a very good mix. I then leave over night in the fridge to marinade. If you like to leave the skin on then brown the next morning, if not remove the skin before marinade stage. Next morning just stir it all again and pop on a low heat for 6-8 hours.
The juices make an amazing sauce, just blend and quickly reduce.

  • that sounds lovely just the sort of food I enjoy- I need to start reading this thread from the beginning and have a note book handy as I love using my slow cooker - it just makes things so easy when I've not had the best of days and I get that "lets get a chippy instead" and leap off the wagon, if I know my tea is waiting for me I'll keep my resolve!

I cooked a small smoked ham in my sc yesterday with a couple of tablespoons of Apple juice , it was divine.. so sweet and tender. We just ate some more with salad and chips... yum.. I might try the brisket though sounds good.

Nice one raphanius, was wondering what I could do with my left over jar!

Will be popping a pork sausage and bean stew on a few mins, but I think it will be more bean than bangers judging by how many beans fell into the soaking bowl last night. :rotfl:
