When you are looking in recipe books, think "pot roast" ie: veggies & herbs, very little liquid if any.
I do a lot of pot roasts in my slow cooker, but only the cheaper cuts of meat. If you are shelling out on rib or sirloin, then roast it in all its glory!

My top brisket pot roasts are:
with peas (just defrost in the microwave)
with chopped onions & tomatoes ( I finish this off in the oven so the veggies caramelise)

Have had turkey bones, celery, onions and potatoes bubbling away in mine for 24hrs - result looks like a tasty stock. Will strain and then make a soup or something when I've got some carrots. House smells divine and dogs and cats LOVE me at the moment!!! x
Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx

March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.

Put it on high for about 1 hour and then turned to low but warm would have been ok as well - delicious!!

Pammy try a couple of spoonfuls of liquid and cooking on low for longer eg 8 or 9 hours depending on the size of the joint. Shorter cooking times may mean that the fat may not have enough time to cook away into the joint and the fibres may not break down enough, it could be a bit gristly and still tough.
