I am trying that one today - my kids think I've lost the plot. I had some out of date blue berry pancake mix that was oppsied, so added a whack of baking powder to the mix. Already made the lemon icing, and that's lush!

Hi everyone, ive never posted on this thread before but i have a query ive tried reading through the threads but it takes hours.

Most of you say tonight we are having "beef casserole" or "soup" but say youve never made beef casserole or soup before and have hardly any basic cooking skills do you have any recipes for someone thats a complete beginner not just with slow cooking but cooking altogether.

i have sent off for a book from amazon but i was hoping for some thrift ideas too.

    p.s whats rubber chicken?

  • Chirpy, there are alot of sc receipes on this very thread, if you to places like the grocery challenge thread at the top of the board, on the first page there is a huge list of diff receipes to try.

Anyone who has made that fab looking choccie cake, did you line the sc with greaseproof paper? i want to make this, but, i want to share it, so instead of scraping out of sc, i would like to lift it to be cut, do you think this would work?

Well - they ate it!. It was more like a sponge cake really, and made about 8 servings. Going to have to start thinking more about doing desserts in the slow cooker now.

I put a reusable liner in mine to make the blueberry pancake recipe and it turned out fine. Baking parchment or greasproof would probably work as well. If you dampen it first, it softens it and you can then mould it to the shape of your crock more easily.

we got given a bottle of hp guinness sauce that mil partner does not like he has sauce on everything and doesnt like it so they gave it too us......
well using this sauce you can make it into a guiness gravy, i have put a dollop of it in my slow cooker with water and a stock cube, carrotts, one large potatoe onion, Thyme, garlic, and paprika making it into like a casserolle, i will brown some cumberland sausages off later on and add them 30 mins before serving with mash and peas.

will have to give that sponge cake a go but i found a recipe for a like steamed pudding which takes 3 mins in the microwave im sure its 50g of self raising flour/butter/caster sugar 1 egg and a drop of vannilla essence mix it up put a dollop of jam/golden syrup/chocolate in the bottom of a mixing bowl and pour batter on top cover with cling film and microwave for 3 mins xxxx
Trying to make big cut backs!!!

  • Yesterday I decided to slow cook a mini Steak and Kidney pudding from Mr T.(why don't they do medium size normal size ones?) which took several hours. (this is a dish I would like to make myself). I served it with packet of fine green beans trimmed both ends and a bit of organic carrot.

A lovely big chilli in mine today:)
Making it with beef mince for a change - the last few have been with cut-up pork shoulder. Even remembered to soak the dried kidney beans (and yes I did boil them;) )
