Decided to get back into using the SC more again so looking through this brilliant thread.
Just wondering MM would I get away with cooked leftovers of beef from a roast rather than doing a whole joint just for this meal?
Ali x
My best results from using cooked roast beef has been to slow cook the veg and add beef just before serving. Blast in mcrowave to make sure really hot.Slimming World at target0 -
£1.78 oak smoked ham shank from Morrisons. The last one did us 2 lots of sarnies for hubbys lunches, one evening meal for us both (ham, veg and crushed potatoes with cheese sauce) and 5 portions of pea & ham soup!!! For £1.78! Seriously impressed.

I hope to read over all your posts in the holidays and you certainly seem to get some seriously good value from your slow cooker. Mine was a fiver from a CBS several years ago and I would go out and buy another one at full price if it were to pack up, so please am I with this method of cooking.
Today I have a sort of goulash but made with chicken thighs. Kohlrabi has been added at the suggestion of a Hungarian client who kindly contacted her grannie for an authentic recipe. I just love beef goulash but am trying to cut down on the red meat, so I will judge when I have tasted the chicken (with caraway dumplings, of course). It was a bit thick so I topped it up with some roasted butternut squash soup which wouldn't quite fit in the container for freezing, so the goulash-thingy should certainly be full of vitamins and minerals!
No more cooking until Christmas Day now. I have been out to the freezer today and was shocked by the huge quantity which has built up of the last few months. I am hanging up my apron for the duration.Solar Suntellite 250 x16 4kW Afore 3600TL dual 2KW E 2KW W no shade, DN15 March 14

Me to - I had a chance to buy a lot of chicken last week incredibly cheap (the packs which are normally 2 for £5 were 25p!!!!!!!!!!!) but could only buy a few. Am eating my way through the freezer so there will be some random meals coming up. It would appear that broad beans will be featuring in a fair few as they seem to have split up and are currently in a race to get from the top drawer to the bottom drawerA positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effortMortgage Balance = £0

It is a crockpot that sits in a metal outer with a heating element in it. The element is low wattage.
You fill the pot with food, turn it on, go to work etc. and come home to a nice cooked meal.
With the dumplings I think you add them in the last 15 mins or so, I have never done them but I am sure some one will be able to tell you. If it is that then make them up and put them in the fridge and when you come home pop them in and go get your coat off, change your clothes (if that is what you do), put a load of washing on or hang a load out, empty the dishwasher, you get the basic ideaand then when you serve your dinner up you have got some jobs out of the way and you can relax.

I`ve not made it yet so i`m not sure sorry, saw that you hadn`t received a reply and didn`t want to read and run.right guys im getting a sc for xmas its a 3.3 litre one.. its fine just for me..

Mcjordi you will love it! You can make almost anything in it. The dumplings take between 30 mins and an hour but i`ve not made any for aaaages so i`d go for an hour the first time that you do them and then adjust the cooking time depending on the size, if they arn`t fully cooked just pop them back in and eat a bit later as everything else won`t spoil.
There is tons of info HERE and there are ideas of recipes dotted around this thread too, WARNING - make yourself a cuppa before sitting down to read it all as you`ll be there for hours:D
Well the lamb shanks were gorgeous, tomorrow i`ll be doing pork steaks in mine. I need to look for the recipe though as i wrote it on a small piece of paper and put it somewhere safe:rotfl:
The crock has been soaking in hot water and washing up liquid for a while now so should be easy to clean quickly and then i`d best get chopping some veg as i intend to leave it in the fridge overnight again.

Hi, sorry for barging in like this but I've just become the proud owner of a slow cooker
(well I originally bought it for my elderly Mom, but she says it's too big & heavy for her to use). I was just wondering if you can just pour broth mix (pearl barley & lentils) into the pot, or do you have to soak it for 8 hours like it says on the pack then add it to the pot? Thanks.
