Made chicken stock from the rubber chicken overnight, which has gone into the freezer for future soup making, and today a big fat bolognese sauce with lots of hidden veggies (what the kids don't know etc. !) to bulk it out. Hopefully enough there for me and OH to have our tea, then some to portion up and freeze/turn into chilli or cottage stylie pie. :)

I got given a load last year, they are very tasty. I diced and browned before adding to SC with normal beefy casserole style ingredients. Definitely needs to go for a long cook, but very nice to eat. Also freezes well uncooked so you can experiment at a later date! HTH

I've got a chorizo, meatball and butterbean thing. It's an "ifit" but it smells rather good.

in my sc today, we are having my caribbean inspired chicken stew or curried chicken with rice and peas which is oh fav and cant get enough of it bless him.
because ive used chicken doesnt mean another meat cant be used, ive done it with beef and mutton but not tried with pork yet for the stew

1 large potatoe in decent sized chunks
1 lemon or good glug of lemon juice i didnt have any fresh but always keep a bottle in for cakes etc
chicken.. i had 3 thighs and 2 breasts to use
1/2 sweet potaoe in decent sized chunks
    1 onion cut into chunks
    1 carrot
    1 1/2 tsp Thyme
2 cloves garlic, i had non left over so i have emergency garlic granules in the cupboard and used 1tsp
2 tsp of carribean seasoning or chicken seasoning
1 chicken stock cube i use maggi which is a carribean stock cube but regular is fine.
2-3 tbsp curry powder i use hot madras curry powder

1 cup of water or 1 and a half depending on how much youve made if cooking on a hob use 2 and alow to simmer down in sc you can add corn flour or regular flour to thicken the sauce abit i hate it watery lol

if you like to wash the chicken i wash using lemon juice, and then i season the chicken first then throw in sc, i didnt have time so washed as normal and just chucked everything in my slow cooker and tossed it about abit.

for rice and peas i dont use coconut milk as oh hates coconut, so i boil water in a saucepan on the hob throw in some washed rice, add kidney beans or any other beans except baked beans lol like gunga/berlotti doesnt matter to me lol, if using dried make sure you soak for recommended hours first or use straight out of the tin and drain liquid, add thyme and seasoning to the rice in the water a little salt and boil rice, half way through i turn the rice off and place lid on to steam it for 20 mins and my rice comes out perfect each time.

Am a SC-newbie. I don't eat meat, but long-sufferring hubbie does, so I've been experimenting with a cheapie SC that we bought in Mr. T's a few weeks back. Not had the nerve to try it out since last week,, but seems there's no stopping me now!

    I've made:

    1. lamb stew - was very impressed as the lamb was quite sinewey & when cooked just fell apart
    2. reduced pork joint on a bed of onions & apples (they were going off so I thought best to use them instead of the cider I had bought for it)
    3. reduced FR chicken dismembered for freezer & carcass made into hearty chicken soup with lots of veggies & pearl barley
    4. trying out that chocolate cake recipe above right at the moment - got a bit confused with the recipe tho as mentions sugar twice but only listed once. hard to make chocolate inedible though I suppose !

I really want to start doing more veggie stuff in the slow cooker in the next few weeks. I've googled loads of them, but does anyone have any they particularly recommend?
