Can you use the pot of your slow cooker in a conventional oven? Im not sure if it would withstand the heat? I know the whole point is not to use your normal oven but sometimes I need a larger casserole type dish and the slow cooker pot is perfect. Id be grateful if anyone knows the answer to this. cheers! x:)

I have 2 slow cookers, both fairly new, and one set of instructions say NOT to use in a conventional oven.

My old one (original Prestige Crock-pot that I used from 1974 to a few months ago) could be put in the oven which was great if you wanted to add dumplings.

So if I were you, I'd read the instructions carefully before risking it.

start using slow cooker, as received it for a wedding gift and never really used it. So i have sliced up a load of veg and put in herbs, pepper and veg stock cubes, once cooked in the morning. Would you recommend leaving it as it is or putting it in a blender or liquidiser as don't have any at mo, so want to know who uses what and how often??

    Slow cookers make great soup.

If I see any reduced veg (carrots/swede/potatoes etc) I always buy a load and pop in the slow cooker then freeze.

As suggested by Sunnyday I'd blend it too.
If you haven't got a blender or liquidiser, you might find somehing like this useful:

I use something similar for blending soups - but watch out for hot liquid splashing.

I'd really like to know how you make this if you wouldnt mind sharing the recipe :D it sounds delish!! Also was wondering what you use it for/in once its done :o

    Hi elf06,
If you look at the thread '5 OS Pleasures in your Day Today Part 2',the recipe is on page 278.
I have it as a jam, with yogurt or with bread and cheese. It's only the second time I've made it,but I think that I'll be making it regularly.
It keeps for a month in the fridge.
  • Just to uodate my chicken in on low and smelly gorgeous!!. There is alot of juice so i think i will have to chuck that.

Feeling adventerous, i am going to attempt to make a bacon and lentil soup tomorrow. Im guessing i will dice about 4 slices of raw bacon, put them in the s/c with some veg stock with various lkentils/chickpeas an onion and potaote. How does that sound?

Well, i started today in my small slow cooker and have had to transfer to the big one as it was trying to escape!!! Hee hee!!!
I have a chicken stew in.... swede, carrots, sweet potato, potato, leeks, onion, skinless chicken thighs (2), chicken oxo cubes (2) veg oxo cubes (2) and a beef oxo cube, handful lentils, handful pearl barley. 1 1/2 pints water... oh and 1/2 tin of baked beans that were lurking!!!..... smells delicious and the taste I just had to make sure that it wasn't poisoned (!!!!) confirms the yummy stakes!!! Got enough though to feed the street.......

Got a (3 meat for a tenner) gammon joint in mine today :D This will feed us three for about 4 meals

    gammon and veggies twice
    sliced as ham in sandwiches
    spaghetti carbonara
then the stock will be turned into a giant pot of lentil and carrot soup half of which will be frozen

    Yummyyyyyyyyyyyyy

I wondered about this too but stumbled on the instructions for mine and it said to never use it in the oven so I wouldn't risk it.

Today my SC made a lovely meatloaf with hidden boiled eggs in it. It was a change of plan as initially I meant to make a large quantity of bolognese for a lasagna. It worked out very well as we had an incredibly busy day, and we'll have another one of those tomorrow, so the other half of the meatloaf is tomorrow's cold supper already made. I do love my SC.

I popped my slow cooker on before I went to work today and came home to a delicious rice pudding. It tasted just like the ones my mum used to make when I was a child. :)
