I am just boiling a gammon joint at the moment to remove excess salt and then it will go into the slow cooker for about 5 hrs. Hope that sounds about right, for a 1.8kg joint? Then finished off in the oven with honey and mustard on top. Fingers crossed! 1st time....0

Hi,
Im going to use my slow cooker alot more now the weather is turningI went shopping yesterday and found asd8 sell bags of frozen leeks (chopped). This is perfect for me as they were a pound odd (fresh leeks are so expensive) and i love my potatoe and leek soup!!!!. Going to try some beef and cook a whole chicken on the weekend!

Yay my first post on here! As its manky and cold today (and I;ve got the gas safety man coming round at 6 so dont want to use my cooker tonight as I've just cleaned it!), I have made a bbq sausage casserole! Its in my slow cooker now. I browned my sausages first - oh has a weird thing about food not being cooked properly.May Grocery Challenge -£216/4000

I've got a mince, onion, carrot & turnip mixture with a can of Campbell's Condensed oxtail soup in my slow cooker.
I want to do some dumplings but have never done these in a slow cooker before.
Have people had any success with dumplings in their SC?
Do they take as long to cook in the SC as in the oven or do they take longer?
Do you leave the lid off?
My slow cooker is a Morphy Richards 6.5 litre oval one.
Anything else I need to know?
Thanks.0 -
Is it ok to put yogurt in the slow cooker - I have pieces of chicken marinated in a yogurt based tikka marinade that I made up last night, was going to bung it all in the slow cooker with other spices and tomatoes etc but wasn't sure if the yogurt would be ok?0

Put in an hour before serving, and should be fine. I do this with coconut milk, and anything creamy in the SC.0 -

I put my dumplings in an hour before serving, turn up to high setting; always with the lid on.0 -
I put dumplings in half an hour, minimum before serving, but they don't dry out or come to any harm if left longer!0

First time slow cooker here, picked up the half price (£9.99) 3.5l round cookworks one from argos last night after humming and harring for the best part of a year whether to get one or not.
I have just put in a pork stew - two diced pork loin steaks, couple of spuds, couple of carrots, onion, pint oxo stock, bay leaf, paprika.
Can't wait to come home to it - hope it turns out ok!0 -
Thanks re the advice about dumplings.
I popped mine in, left them on high for about 45 mins and they came out fine.
I don't think they swelled up as much as they do in the oven but that might just be my imagination as it's AGES since I did dumplings at all.0
