My mum told me he hadnt been paying maintenance as the CSA couldnt find him. They later caught up with him when i was 17 as him and his gf/wife had split up and she contacted the CSA about maintenance for their kids. CSA obv got in contact with my mum. So i dont think it did go through court.never start frowning, because you never know who might be falling in love with your smile!0

Hmm. There will be records then. Just given the difficulties with the CSA, whether they could reasonaly find a record might be a question. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0

Have you got your own birth certificate? Always start from the known - your birth cert with mother's name and maybe your father's name would be a start. You would then know for sure whether they were married or not.
Even with a name like Smith, you should be able to find a marriage, if there was one, because you have your mother's name.0 -
I did have my birth cert and used it not that long ago but cant seem to find it now.:(
im sure it had my mothers maiden name on it. if they were married it would have his surname rather than her maiden name?:think:never start frowning, because you never know who might be falling in love with your smile!0 -

I do my family tree and I just write to the letters page - they are free!
Google for newspapers that cover the towns and cities he has had a connection with and wait for the emails to come back.0 -

Looks as if you're right and they were never married. If they were married or if he had attended the register office then his name would be on the cert as well as your mother's.0 -
I wrote to the office of population and census surveys to trace my Dad. Unfortunately they wrote back to say he had passed away.Don't have the address but remember it is in Scotland sure you could google it. I have since been contacted by a half sister through friends reunited, have five half siblings in that family and have traced another three half siblings through ancestry.co.uk. Do have quite an uncommen surname though. Good luckHere dead we lie because we did not choose
To live and shame the land from which we sprung.
Life, to be sure, is nothing much to lose,
But young men think it is,
And we were young.
