Help with finding my father

I may regret suggesting this but I find people as a sort of not-for-profit/better than Sudoku hobby; I've done over 200 now over the past 7 years and cracked a few that stumped the Salvation Army so if anyone needs help you are welcome to pm me and I'll do what I can to point you in the right direction.0

Sorry Nickie following your PM had a look and unfortunatley if he doesn't use his middle name I don't stand a chance! I have got to go to the local library soon to collect a book I will have a look and see in electoral role if I have any joy, but we are in the middle of quite a conurbation, if he has moved just 5 miles away I wouldn't find him. If you can do a date of birth or more specific area I may have more joy.0

Sorry, ive not been on here for a while.
I know what you mean. Knowing my luck he probably doesnt use his middle name. Trust me to have a dad with that name lol.
I really havent a clue what his date of birth is. I asked my mum and se says she cant remember
Thank you for trying though. Really good of you to have tried.

But at least your mum will discuss it, which is a start - see what other info you can glean from her - places they may have visited together, where you may get some info, approx age he was when they met - you could try old school sites - did he have sisters, brothers, anything - then try looking around on the internet using google etc. Also try posting on any forums for online newspapers in the Halifax area - even mention your mum's name, and people might just remember.
We managed to point a lady in the right direction by chance who had been looking for her father for several years - just spotted her post on a local online newspaper site and I gleaned from OH if he ever hear of him now - then posted the info back to her.
You never know what might come up, so you must prepare yourself that he might not want to be found. Good luck though.0 -
Don't let this put you off, but it looks like there may a few uncomfortable issues come out if you succeed. Just be prepared for either happy or sad at the end of of your search...weenickieS wrote: »thank you. ive already tried them but they can only help if my mum and dad were married.
my brother told me my mum said they were married, she tells me they werent.......get the impression shes hiding something.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
I would really try and get as much info as possible from your family, if they know how serious you are about it then they may come up with info. Are there any memory boxes/photo albums anywhere? may contain information on backs of photos etc.
Maybe a piece in the local newspapers of his last known area of living would help trigger someones memory too - i often see these in the marriage/death announcement pages.
I often wonder how these chat shows find them so quickly
Good luck xxDebtFree FEB 2010!Slight blip in 2013 - Debtfree Aug 2014 :j

My husband is looking for his Birth Father, no contact for 40 years, and the Salvation Army was our first call 6 years ago.
It cost £25 then, but they did not find him. We supposed that he may have moved abroad, but hopeful that he had not died as that would have been on record.
We have his Fathers Birth Cert, his Marriage Cert,( £7 each ) and now may try to get a copy of the Divorce papers ( £40 ).
We are using Genes reunited , and its filling in gaps, but we are no nearer.
I wonder how easy it is to get an NHS Number ?
Any help appreciated.

My mum knows im serious about it, or at least she should as ive been asking questions for years and told her i want to find him.
We used to have a big box full of photos, even photos of me and my dad, papers such as birth certificates etc but my mum converted the loft and the box got lost in the process
I have emailed a local paper in Halifax and im thinking of putting an advert in there. Any ideas how much it would cost anyone?never start frowning, because you never know who might be falling in love with your smile!0 -

If you ever find out if/how you can get an NHS number please let me know, i will do the same.
I am also on genes reunited but getting nowhere.....far too many Smiths lol
I take it the CSA or whatever it is called these days cant give out info on dads? This would have been ideal if they did as he was paying maintenance for a while for us when we were at high school.
Good luck to everyone else who is searching for relatives. xx

maintenance may have been piad volunrarily or through the courts. The courts would have a record but I am not sure if you would be able to access it.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0
