We have gas central heating & hot water which was using between 20-30kwh/day in December. However now its up to about 70kwh/day:eek:. We were using about 8kwh/day in mid november cos it was so mild.

We both work from home so heating on all day (off at night tho.. ofc). Our home is a three bed victorian conversion maisonette.

Electric is pretty constant at 10-11 kwh/day.

The one bed flat above us is currently rented by a Romanian couple with a toddler and they have eco7 heating - i've noticed that they've been using 110kwh per day. Although they've been absent since the Jan 5th - I think they might have done a runner after getting their quarterly bill from nPower...:rotfl:

We suffered from condensation problems too, but invested in a dehumidifier which has proved to be excellent. Less than 2p per hour to run.
Hi, got one on (for the past 13 years) and run it 24/7. We are having a whole house ventilation unit fitted this week though so hopefully should be able to skip the dehumidifier and the electric should reduce.;)

That is pretty good if correct, a member of my family has 2 dehumidifiers which use 2kwh each, ie about 18-20p/hour and are run 24/7 to keep an abnormally dry atmostphere. They are however extremely effective.
Self confessed nerd when it comes to anything financial and/or numerical!

Wow, I bet that is what is putting up our electric then:eek:.

Just worked mine out and our gas is about £3 a day and electric is more cause of running a dehumidifier and also an air purifier 24/7. We have a problem with condensation and are having a ventilation unit installed this week which "should" make the house drier hence use less to heat it... just have to wait and see and its cheaper than using the above.;)
Did my calculations wrong for this and calculated the whole of the reduced rate on the one bill and not over the year so actually our gas is about £2.50 (if that) and electric about £2.75. Not as bad as i thought. This is only through this cold period though.
  • Hi

Our electric meter was changed in May 1995, so 174 months ago. Since then we have used 18331 units of off peak and 65681 units of peak rate electricity. So 3.46 off peak a day and 12.41 a day peak rate.

    All the best

    Keith
  • There is no average consumption, as everyone one has different appliances, different insulation methods and different tariffs.

I hate it, hate it, hate it when people compare usage!!! Sorry but I deal with this query everyday and it makes me mad that people still compare usage.

by the way 2 units of gas and 16 of elec is nothing. If you think it is high then what appliances have you got?

My answer is only my opinion.

  • I am really concerned and confused about my gas usage. I live alone in a two bedroomed flat with gas central heating. Combi boiler, 4 rads. Heating thermostat is set at 16 degrees and is on for one and a half hours in the morning and 3 hours at night. I shower everyday but only wash up every other day. I cannot afford to have it on anymore and sit wrapped in a quilt everynight. I have just received my bill for the month and it's £83.00. I am keeping a daily check on units used and before conversion to KWh it's around 5 a day. It seems an awful lot to me compared to some of the figures quoted on here. Does anyone else think this is high? I changed from a key meter to a standard meter earlier in the year to save money but it doesn't seem to be working out that way.
