How many units of gas / electricity are people using?

At 14p a unit that looks nearer £5 a day than £4 to me. How did your figures go?0

ive been recording mine just this week so here you go:
electricity: 14kwh/day
gas - 90kwh/day
but electricity includes a heater on most the day, and gas includes around 10 hours central heading on top of the usual 'timed' heating.
works out around 3 quid per day, each i thinkTarget Savings by end 2009: 20,000
current savings: 20,500 (target hit yippee!)
Debts: 8000 (student loan so doesnt count)
new target savings by Feb 2010: 30,0000 -

Npower calculate 32 KwH per unit. Their charges for the first 2206 KwHs per year are 6.506p / kwH year, and the remaining KwH's are charged at 2.129p / kwH.
However, the charges are applied as 1 third KwH's at the higher rate and 2 thirds at the lower rate on a daily basis (I've just phoned to find out how the rates are applied and this is what they've told me).
According to Npower we've used £38.15 worth of gas since 31st December, from our meter reading then and the reading today.
We're going to be much more aware and turn the heating off as much as possible from now on.
I had no idea we were spending so much on our gas and electric - if anyone had asked I would have said that we were quite frugal - obviously not as frugal as I'd thought!

That's only £3.80 a day at the coldest time of the year. Is that really too much to pay to keep warm? Personally I don't begrudge a little extra this time of year as there is a gap in water & council tax payments so don't really notice difference financially.0 -

The 14p would be typical of a daytime rate.
However, 2/3 of the usage is off-peak cheap rate which would be typically about 6p per unit.
£4 a day, or just under is correct."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -

Therre should be no reason a supplier will not move you to a more beneficial tariff they have available if that is what you want.
Arrears will only prevent you from moving to a new supplier.
I would contact them again and ask to change tariff if there is a more beneficial one available to you. If they won't start making a complaint."Now to trolling as a concept. .... We have electric heaters not storage heaters either - its a nightmare.
BUt i have a 4 month old with a chest infected, DF suffers from pnuemonia, DS is sleeping in a room that even with the heater on barely reaches 5 degrees. We have no double glazing and waterfalls of condensation on our windows
Our house isnt even warm it just takes the chill off, we have no gas. Dont do our own washing as we cant plumb our washer in but thats a whole other thread.:TIs thankful to those who have shared their :T

Can anyone advise me how much i should set a direct debit for dual fuel with southern electric for a young professional couple living in a 3 bed mid terrace with gas heating and hob and all other appliances electric. i do not heat the largest bedroom as it is an attic room that does not get used. the heating is set to be on from 630 til 9am then from 530 til 1030pm.
thanks!!0 -
I was told today we (me and the missus), in a small 3 bed terraced house use twice as much as the average person for lecky... We are at work all day too...
Weve used 6200 kw from Nov 08 - Nov 09, was told average per year is just over 3000...???? We dont use lecky heaters, or anything big.. have low enery light bulbs everywhere..
Our annual lecky bill was £680, and gas was £380 (6890kw), for thw ame period...0 -

Don't worry about it, the supplier will set the collection amount for you
Just keep an eye on your statements to make sure you are not over or under paying."Now to trolling as a concept. ....
