For people trying to open them via online banking and it fails, try this link instead:

Thanks KTF but it does say that application is for people who DO NOT already have a current account with Lloyds TSB :(

I do not have a current account with Lloyds TSB.
I am aged 18 or over.
    I am a UK resident.
I will pay £1000 or more into my account each month (for example, my salary).
I am an EU national OR I have permission to stay in the UK for at least 12 months.

In my experience of using that link, there are no checks that are done to see if you are an existing account holder.

You fill in the form, wait 2 working days and then the new account appears on online banking.

If you want another account then give it a go. The worst they can do is say no and it has a lot more probability of working than applying for one through online banking (which doesnt even give you the option to try to open another one).

Ive just gone to the home page of Lloyds where they have a big ad for the Vantage account, clicked on that and got the next page:

    Online - Existing Customers
If you already have an account with us, you can apply for an additional account online through Internet Banking.

Apply for an additional Classic Account

    Other ways to apply

Just went through that way, ignoring the thing about I do not have a current account which seems to be a glitch on their part as they say "additional classic account". Anyway Ive completed and sent it off, will see what happens.

LOL, this para made me larf

It’s simple to manage, once you’ve upgraded, Vantage gives you the opportunity to earn high interest without having to manage multiple accounts and move money around during the month.

Hi -was me who suggested the e-saver -not for holding any money (£1 maybe) - but just to enable you to shuffle £1000 out from the Vantage & Back - assuming you only had £7000 available.

As you have £17000 - 3 X vantage accounts would be much better, and is definitely still available. The quickest way to open them is to go into a branch and ask them to set them up. They will be available for you to use by the time you get home :)

Thank you Dizzy. When I saw the 2.5%
interest on the Esaver I decided I would put the larger amount in as Egg's easy access a/c is now much lower. I will check to see if I really can have three Classic with Vantage but yesterday more than one poster said it had been stopped. Trouble is, I might get confused with all these accounts - doesn't take much:eek: If I try to explain this to my SinL and dear daughter I'll be getting funny
looks. They don't seem to be interested in getting better rates although they will be the ones who benefit in the end.

I have just returned from my branch having opened 2 new classic vantages for Mrs KAR in addition to the one I converted online last night.

I wasn't allowed online to convert my Gold account to Vantage or create a new classic account, only upgrade, but in the branch they set up 2 new Classic Vantages for me. For now I've left the original Gold a/c alone as I benefit from the fee waiver.

Just need to start moving funds around.

Call me dumb but how often in one month does the £1k get transferred? Seems like it must be every day to get the max interest in the Classic account.
