it can be done online, as when i was looking at the upgrade options the other day it was listed the other week,

it defaults to offer the silver account but if you look on either that page, or select the silver link, there is an option to look at other accounts, it then offers silver, gold, platinum and vantage as upgrade options.

also for anyone waiting for this months interest mine is showing as paid now

Have you tried doing what anna42hmr mentions in post #101? It worked for her, but someone later in the thread said it didn't for them.

So she made one for me (which was for yesterday) but I had no intention of going because 1) it sounds like the answer will be no anyway; and 2) I don't particularly want to alert them again to the fact I have too many Vantage accounts otherwise they may do something about it.

That said, since I have not had contact with them since they'd better not go reverting some of my accounts back to classic without my authorisation!!

Don't worry about it. I've had 7 Vantage accounts for approx a year now. The counter staff at my local branch all stare in disbelief and bewilderment when they see the numnber of accounts on screen all loaded with £7K. They usually say ' I thought you could only have 3' and I reply yes you can now, but originally it was unlimited. They sometimes just smile and say I wish I had that many !!

I saw a c/s manager recently in a private office to discuss another matter, he also commented - 'clever, extremely clever'. :T
  • Here's how I upgraded from Classic to Vantage

    1. On your Classic Account, on the right , under "Make a Transfer" there should be a blue "Upgrade" arrow and clickable link

    2. On the next screen entitled "Upgrade your Account", scroll right down to the very bottom and there should be "Compare with all accounts". Click this link

    3. You should now be at "Added Value Accounts", again scroll right down to the bottom and there should be the Vantage option.

    Hope this helps

I just went straight to it again but must admit it is a difficult site. Current accounts are at top left with a lot of other account types. Click CURRENT A/cs and then bottom left same page Classic. I copied the info for you --

    Classic Account

Our free Classic Account will give you all you need to make everyday banking easier. It comes packed with great features to help you make the most of your money. Manage your money 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
And if you add Vantage to your account, you could get one of the best current account credit interest rates available on the high street.

I currently have 5 Vantage accounts, but could do with another. Couldn't add a 6th vantage account online or over the phone, got a letter saying I would have to go into branch to do it. Telephone customer services confirmed this also.

So I went into branch asking to create a secondary classic account (with the intention of upgrading online at a later date) and when the lady saw that I already had 5 vantage accounts she said I would have to revert some. Then she said I would need an appointment to discuss another new account.

So she made one for me (which was for yesterday) but I had no intention of going because 1) it sounds like the answer will be no anyway; and 2) I don't particularly want to alert them again to the fact I have too many Vantage accounts otherwise they may do something about it.

If you've added Vantage accounts since the limit of three was introduced the bank would not need your authorisation to remove Vantage from your fourth and fifth accounts. It would just need to inform you of the relevant t&cs and the action it was taking.

I have only one and yet when I click on apply online I get 'Sorry, we can't offer you a secondary current account.' Anyone any thoughts on why? Is a branch application likely to be more successful?
    I think....

Exactly when did the limit of 3 come into force?

Try the options here rather than go through online banking. This has worked for me.
