However, OH received £60 from a friend apparently lent it to him about 2yrs ago and we forgot, no wonder we are in debt you say, anyhow wasn't expected so wondering if allowed to add to my total? any advice greatfully received.

Include whatever you want in your total ... it is a no rule challenge and everyone is setting themselves their own parameters for what they want to achieve ... now if only a few people I know would remember they borrowed money, favourite books, DVDs, CDs .... ;)

Just been onto local bargain finder and noticed they have a link to search though clearance at your local argos store. I did a search, eyed up a few items, researched resale on ebay and went to buy 4 and only 1 was in stock! Obviously not totally linked to the local store however others may have more luck so I thought I'd post it anyway, sorry if you already know about this! Clearance ends soon!

  • I think it is possible to get good prices for something you start at 99p on ebay, I've 6 sold items this last week for £115 total profit and they all started at 99p, but I knew their quality and value. I even stated this in the description but said I was willing to take a gamble as the items were surplus to requirements.

The trick is to know what you are selling, I never list anything without researching it first. Sometimes all you need for research is the 'completed items' tab on ebay, but you really need to make sure you know what you've got. If you are listing silver or gold, find out what those hallmarks mean and include it all in your description.

For example, one of my items was a broadband dongle, now I was willing to accept less than I paid as I got 2000 tesco points for buying it which = £80 off my next holiday. Anyway... I popped into the completed listings, looked at all those identical dongles and studied those which successfully sold for good prices, I used the same title as those which had a lot of pageviews and I used ideas from thier descriptions, including wording and the layout. After fees and postage costs etc I got about £11 less than I paid for it (inc del) but £11 for £80 off my holiday is an investment I'm more than happy with.

Vary the font size for different paragraphs, use blue or red to highlight paragraph titles, it breaks it up and makes it much easier for the buyer to read....go BOLD to emphasize important details. and watch your spelling!

Also weigh your items so you know how much it will cost and include postage prices for overseas bidders, okay most will ask if they are interested, but what if they only spot your item 30 mins or so before the end, they'll figure they wont have time for your response and just wont bid. My scales are rubbish and I under-quoted for one of my items, but my lesson there is to invest (via sales and cashback ;) ) in a more accurate set, saving money in the long run.

well those are my selling tips for those people starting out on ebay...obviously the fees for ebay and paypal need to be studied too, but I was just trying to cover the listing angle.

hope it helps someone, I feel I've a lot I need to give back after all the help and encouragement I've received recently. :D

I mostly agree but don't overdo the colours and fonts as it can end up being a right deal breaker. A little is fine but there are too many garish adverts on ebay that personally put me right off. There are all kinds of buyers, so you might find listing items with totally different layouts and styles will attract different buyers, a bit like having multiple brands in the same market place. Cakeordeath, I am sure that your listings won't be garish by the way (having seen your stunning work) ;).

Not sure Shakey - but are you sure you need to? Why not leave it and learn from it, then carry on?

You can close your account. I haven't been on for a while, but I imagine you go to your account, then edit your profile. The tech support is good on there, so you could contact them if you get stuck :)
  • I've spent 45mins doing:

3 Surveys, the only 3 I qualified for out of millions, clear inbox = clear mind though :)
1 Dooyoo review, I hate Dooyoo on a good day so one is enough today.
4 Job Applications, a new job would be a huuuge chunk of my 10k! Esp since i'm down to 3 nights now at my current horrid job, boo!
And I've changed my bed and tidied up a bit so not bad.

All of that just to avoid eBaying :rotfl:

Well there are people out there woofing up Mr T mobiles bought for points and re-sold on ebay.

I pretty much sold my Nokia 1208 tonight, as soon as I listed it, on a best offer format. The buyer had bought 80 others in the last few days.

That's one thing that has gone really great this last quarter. Accumulating T points through buying and selling on ebay as many CD's/DVD's and Mobiles that Mr T will allow me.

I think it is good to hear the highs and the lows, we can learn from both, thanks everyone. Yummymummy you made me laugh, as my son has been ill at home today, and I have a dear sister, who I am always subbing out, even though I know it's not good for her, and SADIE you gave me hope!
I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.
