snow affecting your deliveries?

Just wondering if any other sellers are in the same boat

I sold several items over the weekend most of which were paid for Sunday / Monday. Anyway I couldnt post Monday as was waiting in for courier delivery for DD birthday present.

It started snowing here heavy Tuesday so the post office closed early, by midday it was so bad all the schools were closing and ringing parents, employers were sending people home etc so of course the post office was closing. Anyway wednesday again was really bad I rang post office they werent open. I emailed my buyers at this point to advise them of the delay as the Monday I advised I would be posting today.

Thursday I braved the cold and snow, despite it being so bad again no schools, buses etc running and everyone off work and got to post office closed agian, tried Friday at 3 and apparently they had closed early due to the weather and didnt open today!

I have emailed all my buyers but am getting some really sarcastic replies saying people use the weather as an excuse, oh i thought it was lost in the post I could of collected it had I known. Yeah he would really of made it to my home over the bridge considering the fire and police were rescuing cars on the main road oppiste my house! He must be incredibly lucky as to think it was lost in the post hes clearly having post daily, I had my first lot of post since Monday, today.

Has anyone else had problems posting due to the snow?

I haven't sold anything recently but bought an item Tuesday at about 9pm & received it Thurs morning - it was only posted 2nd class! All POs around here are open but snow is not too bad atm.

Not really , I even got a 2nd class item all the way to Glasgow overnight mid week. All my stuff has been going daily, although the Crown PO did close for an hour briefly on Thursday due to electrical problems.

I've had other feedback commenting on speedy deliveries despite poor weather as well but as I don't get 100% of my buyers leaving feedback I can't say for certain that everything sent this week has already arrived. However even my friends in the absolute middle of nowhere have had open POs, so you must be particularly unlucky and if yours is the only affected area with no pst for a week I can see why some buyers might not quite believe you, which is unfortunate.

My son though had ordered a few things over the week which seemed a little slower than normal, but we had a huge pile of stuff today in a van from RM so I think apart from one thing still outstanding we have completely caught up.

Hi I think the weather is making the post a bit random as I am still getting my post fine but some of my buyers are not and I am sending their stuff the same as ever.
Some people just don't consider that if everything where they live is fine it may not be elsewhere in the country or on the route to where they live.
My advise is to hang in there and try not to take any of the more stupid comments buyers make personally just be polite and keep them advised of the situation also if they get to impatient offer a refund to try to calm them down and prove your are not just trying to rip them off or making an excuse not to send their items.

My dad bought some items on new years day, not arrived yet when I rang the sorting office for him they said they had a massive pile of parcels in but they couldnt get vans out to deliver them and laughed when I asked when theyll come! They delivered his letters by foot today too first time ever hes only 7 miles away. We had about 6" snow here and the roads arent being gritted due to the salt shortage as were in the middle of nowhere virtually

totally unrealted but thought I would share, weve had people fighting in the supermarkets over food, the co-op had to call the police on thursday. its madness the shops were bare today and they had signs up saying closing at 6 due to weather

the shops arent getting deliveries in and tesco and asda are cancelling all food deliveries as they cant get out. dhl were due to come to me wednesday but didnt come out apparently they tried thursday and friday but the roads here were too bad

  • You must be very unlucky but i know what it is like to be in the middle of nowhere.

i live in a town now but even so an item due to be posted Tuesday didn't get send till Wednsday because the roads with the PO's on hadn't been gritted and i value my car too much to risk it.
  • I dont particularly live in the middle of nowhere yet we haven't seen a postie since Mon, they have suspended all deliveries. Along with the fact im 9mths pregnant I cant leave the house myself either so i have had to stop selling for the time being as i have no idea when i will next be able to get to a PO. I has sold and sent one item on Mon morning and have since had a 'where is it?' message, when i asked about their Postie they admitted they too hadnt seen one all week..yet they expected to have somehow received the item, duh! lol. So much easier to quit while im ahead i think!

I think some people who are in areas that have not had quite as much snow do think the rest of us are trying it on alas. I live in the country and we are snowed in. We have had no post delivered for 4 days here and the post was last collected on Monday. Our town centre has pretty much shut down and there have been no buses for a week. I have just been emailing people a link to the Royal Mail webpage for my area. It specifically states that my postcode is not receiving any postal services at all.

I'm waiting on purchases but realise likely to be down to the weather. Received despatch email on Sunday for 2nd class recorded so have asked seller for tracking number to find out where it might be.

Was reading their blurb on their despatch email though claiming RM won't class something as missing till 21 days...

  • We had about 4 days of no collection/delivery.

No buses running either to get to a PO even if they were open.
The road is still in exactly the same state as it was while they were not delivering, but they have decided to brave it now. (Same with the buses.)

I have every sympathy when it comes to strikes etc, planned disruption, but when you are standing on a perfectly clear road being passed by every type of vehicle waiting for a bus that won't come out, and posting things that won't be picked up.... well that annoys me.

I'm sure it's not the individual posties fault, but they could have at least sent someone out to check on the roads before deciding they were impassable.
