We will. The point I was merely making was that people do deserve a second chance, yes there will be instances where someone who has commited theft/fraud will NOT be suitable for a certain a role but if everyone took the attitude of one strike your out there would be no rehabilitation for some criminals and there only option would be returning to crime. I appreciated that maybe in your large company having someone who you feel you "have to keep an eye on" is not feasable, but then your company should also have procedures in place to pick up on missing items that could have been stolen.OK Pitkin, we will agree to disagree then.....
Either way the last company (small company) I did work for had recruited a past offender, robbery I beleive but had served his time. The employer decided to give the guy a break and take him on, the guy presented himself well at interview and showed real commitment to changing his life for the better. This guy worked his !!!!! off let me tell you, he never complained no matter what the task was, he always started early and finished late and he never took sick days off. Why?? Because he had something to prove and he knows he was given a great oppourtunity to start his life again which he grabbed with both hands. I'm not saying every person is like that but quite often those that accept the mistakes they have made can move on with their life whilst those that blame others for their mistakes live in the past.
Just because someone has a past doesn't mean they are going to be less reliable than someone who doesn't!!Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0 -
I don't disagree with that statement at all.Just because someone has a past doesn't mean they are going to be less reliable than someone who doesn't!!
At the moment, like i said, i am recruiting for a pretty good job. All being equal, with the good quality candidates that i am seeing, i cannot think of a reason why i would take someone that is a thief (for example) over someone that isn't.
I can understand that anyone could be a criminal and just not admit it, but that is my job to trust my instinct and take the candidate that i think will best suit the needs of the business.0 -
I am sorry to hear of what happened and it's way too easy to say 'ah well it's your own fault, serves you right'
Gambling addiction must be quite tough. I've nearly fallen into it's trap many times although my parents stopped me, so i am very lucky.
You most certainly deserve a second chance mate as we are only human. We all make mistakes and regret thing's we have done in our life. How many of you can honestly say your perfect and have never done wrong? Anyone who says they are perfect are lying obviously.
Yes it was totally wrong what he did, however if he has realised this and wants out of it then he deserves some support and a second chance.
Well, that being said it's not going to be easy to get a job again however it's not going to be impossible so don't give up! You have to prove to them why you should be employed. Perhaps you can do some sort of charity work/volunteer as this can be added to your CV and help you.
Good luck0 -

So many posters turn nasty when faced with something they don't want to hear. I am very impressed that you have responded to everyone with courtesy, regardless of whether their comments were good or bad.thanks for all the support and comments productive and non productive yes that person was allowed there say but not being funny but if you dont have anything positive to say why bother posting it ive asked for advice not the obvious stuff that you wouldnt employ me.

That attitude will take you a long way – I really hope everything works out for you! :T
BrionaIf I don't respond to your posts, it's probably because you're on my 'Ignore' list.0 -
Bloody hell mate you have go yourself in a pickle. If you are doing courses and going to Gamblers Anonymous maybe you can take on a bit of voluntary work as well, that will get you a reference and you can start rebuilding life a bit. I know guys who have decent jobs who were court martialed out the forces for serious crimes (assault with a weapon, stealing and running through the married quarters area streets with a samurai sword). It's not the end of the world. Maybe you will eventually end up in a job that gives you a better buzz than gambling. The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett

You have very tough times ahead, and i wish you luck.
You did need an insight though into an employers perspective.0 -
Get some advice from Gamblers A. Have you obtained legal advice, in case this goes to court, if not then you should. Do a search for other gambling support charities to see if they can assist with advice as well. Get as much support and advice as you can.0

Yeah i agree its going to be tough to find new employment and never thought it would be easy i accept the criticism but i asked for advice if you wanna give criticism do it but give advice to like i asked for.0
