  • Difficult one. I'm not gonna sit here in judgement but f**king hell mate what are you up to stealing from work!? As for stopping the rumors I'm really not sure that you've got a leg to stand on, your employer isn't gonna give much consideration to protecting your reputation when you've been caught stealing from them so I don't think there's much you can do on that count.

Did your employer involve the police? A criminal record will make it difficult when looking for a new job - imagine yourself in a prospective employer's position - would you employ someone who was fired from their last job for theft?

    Bad news all round.

Stealing is never justified, stealing is screwing your employer & your colleagues in their wage slip each and every hour of every day and screwing customers who have to cover the cost.

It should have been confidential, but lets be fair something like that in any place of work will get out, simply by your abscense will raise questions among the workforce - and the only way to deal with that is by answering the questions.

You have to declare any potential previous incidents at the start - otherwise employers WILL find out when they go for a reference. It's always better to stand by a mistake in the first place than deny it and suffer for it later, most employers would kick you to the curb instantly if you dont tell them.

You've made a serious, serious mistake and you will suffer for it greatly, ultimately a majority of employers will be reluctant to take you on now.

thanks i know what ive done and openly admitted it but surely whateva i done if its said to be confidential it should stay that nomater what the person in the wrong surely should be disiplined.

thanks for advice tho im sure if i explain what happened and why it happenend if i get a interview anywear they would take that into consideration.

Tough situation. Depends on the reasons why you stole, you say you had reasons. Was say someone threatening you?
Theft is never ever justified. But all you can do is appeal, and ask that they allow you the opportunity to resign so you don't have gross misconduct on your record.

What evidence do they have? Did a manager catch you? Did another employee sign a statement saying they had seen you?

Did they offer you any help or support as a company?

You can still appeal and ask for the opportunity to resign. When I was accused of being drunk at work I spoke to ACAS a number of times and citizens advice. They both asked if the company had asked if I had addiction problems.
  • You were fired for Gross Misconduct, unfortunately stuff like that will get around and soon enough all the Employees know. Bosses will deny they ever told anyone and lay the blame on you (i.e. you must have confided in at least 1 person and word spread). You probably won't be able to prove and have evidence that 1 particular person told others and those others be willing to write a statement to that effect. It won't get you your job back by complaining about it.

When I worked at M&S a few years ago 3 workers were caught on CCTV over the space of a week regularly going behind the bakery counter and eating the food. They were all sacked (obviously) and as a parting gift named and shamed 5 other workers who also did it, and after an investigation into the CCTV 5 more workers were sacked... word gets around whether your the boss or the person that comes in to clean twice a week. We shouldn't all know, but we do.

Good Luck in the job search. If I were you I would forget this job ever happened. As soon as a prospective Employer receives the reference back it says reason for leaving last job GROSS MISCONDUCT they will more than likely backtrack their offer.
  • thanks for the comments jaffa are u sayin not to say on application forms that i worked for that particular company would that be braking the law or anything.

see it so annoying because i neva told any1 what was happening after it all happened a ex colleague told my brother what she been told and a certain number that rekon i stole.only he and the other manager in the disiplinary hearing would of known that so i know who it was so frustating cus i admit i did wrong but noway should they be spreadding it when its confidential
thanks again tho for the comments

Staff aren't stupid they will work out that if you were sacked after a disciplinary there has to be a reason and there are ways of working it out.

Where I work the policy is any staff found stealing will be escorted by police through the front door in full view...it acts as a good deterrent to other staff not to steal. Don't expect your company to want to go out of their way to cover it up, they have no desire to protect you.
