I'm new here so bear with me please! I came across this forum yesterday as I was looking for an address to send a complaint to Rimmel about false advertising (their maxx 10 day nail polish actually lasts about 2!). Anyhoo I got home last night and was making dinner when my hand blender made a strange noise and smoke was coming out of it. I switched it off and found that where there two parts fit together had become deformed (it looked like a mixture of melting and the inner workings grinding out the inside as there were shavings of plastic and the thread was mishapen) - so I walked around the corner to Tescos where it was purchased from to see customer services. I was told that as I had no receipt and no packaging (it was bought in Oct/Nov) that there was nothing she could do. I pointed out that it still had the Tesco label on it and she agreed it was their product. Apparently they only guarantee electrical goods for 28days! I asked to speak to the manager who came over and said "it's no use talking to me, I'm only going to tell you what she said" I was fuming by this time and explained the product wasn't fit for the purpose bought for. It wasn't even expensive but I'm angry at the rude attitude I was met with. Where do I go from here? I have phoned head office and they said a replacement was at the discretion of the store.

Not sure if this info will help you but when you buy from Tesco they print a barcode on the receipt and tell you thats the guarantee, I have one for something I bought and it says nothing about 28 days, the 28 days is the standard return time given under consumer rights for exchanges and refunds. Call their bluff and enquire about buying an electrical item as to how long the guarantee covers I know you dont have the receipt but its a tesco product so you had to of bought it there.

Failing that buy another one and return the faulty one for a refund on the receipt for the one you just bought. ;)

No - but it should be moved to another board
tescos have to repair the item or if they cant repair it provide you with a equivalent item or replacment product - considering that you have only had the item for a couple of months they should replace it - thats the law

if they want to take up the matter with the manufactuer thats what they have to do and not you.

if the bloke from ho does not come back to you within 7 days - print off the consumer goods act which appears on the forum and quote it to him on the phone - stae that you will invole trading standards for selling a faulty product and you will email watchdog about the lousy customer service.

    just keep on at them

If you used your clubcard when paying, then customer services can pull up details of the transaction on the computer, thus being your proof of purchase. :)
  • 2 Days before christmas I bought a pk of 2 spot light bulbs from Asda
Bought them home and fitted them in the light fitting when I turned them on they exploded  I rang customer services and complained, The lady I spoke to was very sympathetic and said she would send me my money back and a little extra for my trouble, Today I received a gift card with £45 credited on it :T Really good result but I am so glad that when they exploded my 2 yr old wasnt stood below them.

I'm not a serial complainer, but that said, when something is really up I have been moved to.

When I was about 19 I went into House of Fraser with my mate and bought the Estee Lauder Christmas special makeup hamper they do, I think it was about £40 for a fragrance purchase, plus another £45 or thereabouts for a large make up kit. My mate also bought the same.

Later on the same day I picked up a voucher for a free perfume sample, went in to collect it and they refused to give it to me! One woman was about to get it out of the drawer when the manager came over and said (blatently lying) that they didn't have any! I left, and got my boyfriend (who was 7 years older than me) to go in half an hour later and he was given it!

I was SOOOOOOOOOOOOO livid. Okay, I was 19, and probably wearing jeans & t-shirt, but still! I couldn't help feeling that they had kinda assumed that I was a scruff, and on that basis, refused the free sample (which was BS - I was earning more than the girls behind the counter for sure, and was still living at home so had 100% disposable income - huh - those were the days...)

Anyways, I wrote to them because I was seriously cheesed off - especially after putting so much cash in their tills that day.

They sent me a lovely parcel of their stuff, and an apology, but you know - I I'm nearly 30 now, and *STILL* don't buy any of their stuff. Clarins/Clinique/Chanel can all have my money GLADLY, and I think how many hundreds of pounds Estee Lauder have missed out on and chuckle.

Oh, I also complained to Pizza Hut after witnessing a waiter drop some garlic bread and put it back on the plate and take it out to a table - sheesh - if that's what they'll LET the customer see, lordy only knows what goes on behind closed doors. They sent me vouchers for another meal, which was horrible, I ordered pasta that was still frozen in the middle and got the same one stirred up and reheated again back. Didn't bother complaining, but wouldn't eat there again.

And the last time I complained, I got a black bit in my swizzel stick from Swizzels Matlow (I think that's the name of the company) I sent it back, they said they'd had it tested and it was just hard fat or something - not a health & safety risk, apologised, and sent me a huge parcel of yummy sweeties. Their response was good and informative, and has not stopped me buying their sweeties for when I've been a very good girl.

And I lie too - that wasn't the last time I complained... I was eating a sandwich on the train I'd bought from EAT and it had a really horrible fly in it (I was just about to take another bite) It didn't look like it had come from this country either. Bleurgh. I complained, and they sent me an apology, £15 vouchers - which I took and bought a hardback book of Soup from their shop, and a couple of pre-packed ice lollys. *not eaten in their since either

A snobby Estee Lauder sa accused me of shoplifting in Boots 2 years ago, i should've reported her to ES head office, not for any freebies but just for the principle of it. Apparently, Boots head office gave her and the store manager a ticking off and sent me a £25 voucher.

As for age and looks, when i was about 18(many, many years ago), i wanted to buy some cleansing products from Estee Lauder, the sa refused to sell it to me, telling me i wouldn't be able to afford it. Those were the days! I'd love to hear a sa say that to me now.:rotfl:

Btw, Clinique is a sister company to Estee Lauder, i love their stuff but at least their sa arent stuck up their own backsides.

Complained about a Campina milkshake that was banana, but in strawberry packaging. Had to send off the milkshake but got a £5 Boots voucher.

Complained to Tesco about appalling customer service and didn't get a reply - so I just stopped shopping in there.

Complained to Game after buying an own brand Wiimote cover which ripped when trying to put it on. If this wasn't bad enough, when my fella went in they basically said it was his own fault and to deal with it. I went in waving some info around from trading standards saying it was unfit for purpose. They swapped it for me, no problem so I wrote to their HO saying that they need to be more consistent in their training and they sent us £20 worth of vouchers.

Complained to my bank last year. I made a deposit to my account as something was due to be debited the week after. The deposit didn't go into my account for a fortnight and they put bank charges on my account for going overdrawn! I had to go in with my stamped deposit slip, and they refunded the charges and gave me a £20 goodwill payment.

Complained to Asda about some fresh pasta that was within it's use by date but was mouldy. They didn't bother to reply.

Complained to Wilkinson Sword a while ago, they were giving away £2 vouchers in a gents razor but they had no barcode and were therefore unusable (didn't know this until trying to redeem in Boots). I emailed them and they sent me £5 Wilkinson Sword vouchers.

Complained to French Connection for my cousin, she tried to buy some trousers which were a weird fit and the shop assistant implied that she was deformed in some way which is why the trousers didn't fit her (it was simply bad manufacture) - she got a £70 FCUK voucher.

I've made many a complaint to supermarkets, but they just seem to get ignored. Any advice?

I'm sure there are loads more as I'm such a moaner!

I've just emailed Marks and Spencer as I placed an online order on Christmas day for over £50 and today have received £12 worth of it. My account online shows that it should all be dispatched together and I have had no email correspondence to indicate that the order would be split up. I think this is pretty rubbish service for M&S (and I have pointed out to them that I am a regular customer but won't be shopping on M&S online again).

Will let you know if/ when I get a response.

The missus is a whizz at complaints letters. She's had god knows how many vouchers back from One and TfL for late/cancelled/overcrowded trains. She has also got a free day at The Sanctuary for her and her mum after a visit they had wasn't all that pleasant. The Sanctuary wrote a long letter back addressing all the issues and were very apologetic.

I complained to Wagamama a while back about their CS. We had to wait 30 mins to be seated in a half empty restaurant because they were so short-staffed. This was a BH Monday lunchtime. I got back £30 in vouchers (more than the cost of the meal). :j
