    NEED SOME ADVICE PLEASE!!XX

My GHD hair straighteners stopped working a few weeks ago - I rang them last week and they said send them in and we'll look at what's wrong etc etc.

Well - today I received a call from them - she said as my GHDs were over 3 years old they didn't have the parts so wouldn't be able to fix them!!???

I was given the option of either buying a replacement product (£90!!!!!) - or having my old ghds returned to me at a cost of about £10 (for admin/post costs!!) - don't really want to spend £90 on more ghds - it seems wrong that I have to pay to have my product returned back to me!!!!????

I was really suprised - can they do this???? what should I do???

    I would appreciate any help/advice....THANK YOU!!!!XXX

This is quite shocking but i rang SKY the other day to have SKY broadband and they told me i had to ring another number, so i took the number down and said thankyou to the helpdesk staff and put phone down and picked it back up to dial the other number, the man was still on the other end of the line and hadnt finished the call, i think he took his headset off, i was saying "hello????" over and over, i starting thinking oh what am i going to do and all of a sudden i heard him talking to 2 other people in his work about how he had got in at 5 am this morning and had taken some "cocaine!" and it tasted bloody awful and he thought that it had been mixed with talcum powder!!!!! i was shell shocked and started shouting hello? again, i put the phone down and picked it back up and then it cut off, so i called back and asked to speak to a supervisor, they put me through and said they would have a copy of the recording from the call i made, i also have the staff id number for this person and his work phone number, but SKY refuse to tell me anything and i have told them i now dont want their services , they also took £40 out of my bank account today for the broadband installation fee (i havent even had it) so i rang and complained again and they said they will refund the money in 48 hrs! I am truly disgusted with the service(or lack of) that i have recieved, please can anyone tell me what i should do, as i have spent approx 2 hrs on hold in total and am getting nowhere

Personally, I would tell them to keep the straighteners. They're no good to you if they don't work and why should you have to pay for having something that is broken to be returned to you for you to dispose of?

I find it strange that the call didn't cut off when you put the phone down your end... being charged for a call you couldn't disconnect from I understand it's cause for complaint.

Complaining about someone's conversation they had, when it seemed like there was no customer on the line to me is pointless... If that person wishes to abuse their body then so be it, if they were forcing it up my nose I'd be a little more concerned...but they aren't.

Maybe it's just me but I say each to their own if that's how u want to live your life.

I do hope you sort out your broadband out though, and yes I'm drug free too :p

Depends on how long you think they should last under normal use, and was also thinking about contacting Argos about a portable dvd player which should have lasted longer but which is outside warranty.

    just found this

But manufacturer's guarantees do not replace your basic shopping rights outlined in the Sale of Goods Act, which allow you to claim against the retailer if you buy faulty goods. In fact, the manufacturer is legally obliged to draw your attention to the legal rights under the act.
Consumers are generally better off pursuing Sale of Goods Act rights against the retailer, as these are stronger than those contained in a manufacturer's guarantee and last for up to six years from the date of purchase. The goods you buy must be reasonably durable and of satisfactory quality and fit for their purpose.

Big-ticket electrical appliances such as iPods, washing machines and dishwashers should be expected to last for several years. You should be able to claim compensation from the retailer if they break down within that period as long as they have been used normally. Your rights do not come to an end after 12 months simply because the manufacturer's guarantee has expired.

I agree, the most important term to use when in correspondence to said company is..."fit for their purpose." Might be worth asking the company what they think is the life expectancy for their product.

:j Got instant win, free apple pie with McDonalds Monopoly. When I opened the Apple Pie there was a hair in it. I phoned McD's and they sent out a postage paid envelope for the piece of the pie to be sent back. After 2 weeks I phoned them again to find out the result, they told me that a letter was sent out,but since I never received it, they would send out a duplicate copy. Received the original letter yesterday with £10 worth of vouchers, and received the copy today with another £10 worth of vouchers. Guess whos kids are going to be happy at teatime.:j

just wondered if when complaining it is common place to send the product (a book) with it? or keep it as proof?
and to post by recorded delivery to ensure a response? or overkill?
    Yes Your Dukeiness :D
