July '06 Grocery Challenge

Right this time I've got to do it. My month is working from 27th June to 27th July. I try to do one big monthly shop (making the most of OH and the car
) but yesterday I did quite a bit of shopping on foot/bus.
This time I'm aiming for £120, but have a budget of £160 (as there are ALWAYS things I forget or we run out of no matter how hard I try! ) Good thing is this is the last month when I have to buy packed lunch drinks for DD until September so I'm already planning my attack for stocking up on thoseStill have to make OH packed lunches but he's a bit easier to cater for since he can have anything (plus he got iron guts so can stomach egg mayo etc that hasn't been refridgerated during the day
unlike DD who can't even have cooked meat on her sandwiches ) :rotfl:
So my spends so far :- Fruit & veg £5.47 (Bananas x 2 bags, apples x3 bags, citrus (10), salad tomatoes (12), whole cucmber, mushrooms (12) )
- Home bargins £1.11 (Starclean and sponge scourers)
- Savers £2.37(Bodyspray x 2, Antibac hand wash - big one!)
- Tesco £2.93 (Value bananas, sunny raisins, value bread x3)
- Iceland £6.50 (Economy burgers, thin pork sausage, ketchup, 15 large eggs x 2)
- Iceland £5.39 (Warburtons sliced buns x3, bin bags, mini chedders x 2 BOGOF)
- Superdrug £11.05 (Drink, vosene BOGOF x 6 bottles, apricots for lunch, toothbrush 3pack for DD, cleanser)
:rotfl: ) I had 70p put aside for my lunch, and I'm counting the vosene as costing me £1 as I'll add the cost to the budget as I open a new bottle :rotfl::shhh: Therefore my budget currently stands at :
- Aim = £120
- Spent = £29.12
- Left = £90.88
) but I've been costing it up using the Asda website. Current estimate is £42.81 including the treat of 2litres of ice-cream (one OH likes as well  ) and cornets, Cranberry juice for DD and a growing basil for the garden
I'm impressed with myself. Now if I can stick to that and not overspend by loads then I'll be happy as my usual monthly shop is about £80
Might still have to add a couple of things to the list, but I'm sure I'll still be able to keep to my £120 budget...I hope :silenced:

Hi all
Well after my first month of doing the challenge - I came out with a saving of £16.35 so will chuffed with this.
Gonna have another go this month but gonna try and cut down a little bit more and have a budget of £120.00 - instead of £150.00 .
Keep up the good work you lot.Hoping that when I start looking after the pennies, and the pounds will take care of them selves :j0 -
horrible month ahead for me too - car tax to be payed tomorrow and i know i have to drive to london and back at least four times before the end of july so thats at least 120 on petrol - so only option is to do a store cupboard challenge and really cut down on the grocery bill.
so - july target for petrol, cleaning and groceries = £2200 -
In again for July. Keeps me on the straight and narrow. I can easily get carried away with a shopping trolley
My "month" runs from 20th June to 19th July. Although we go on holiday on the 15th July I am staying with my usual budget of £260.00 for both food and diesel. This is for 2 adults and a ten year old.
So far I have spent £110.96 - £65.61 on food and £45.35 on diesel. Freezers are bulging so hopefully will just need fresh stuff. Anything spare from the budget will be transferred to the holiday account for some holiday treats :j
Good luck to everyone especially the 1st-timers!0 -
Im re joining this month (didnt bother for june as away for 2 weeks of it!!!). My aim is purely to be below Mays spend, which was just over £160.0
-
I'm going to join in for July. I usually spend about £100 so I'm going to aim for £70 as I'm moving house on 10 August so I'm try to have used up most of what I have in my flat by then.2007 comping challenge - Won £25 / need £1040

Always filling and cheap, make up a sauce with tinned tomatoes (value ones) and add in mince, veg, chilli (to give it a kick) if you make a batch you can freeze portions - always looking for something quick after the gym. Same can be done with curries etc and it might stop phoning out for a take away!0
