July '06 Grocery Challenge

What a horrible month... and it's not over yet.
My grocery budget has been blown out of the water. After the horrible time last month with sick relatives we've had another elderly relative stay who is extremely poorly. I've been buying lots of little tasty treats to try and tempt him to eat (to no avail). He is now in hospital so we've had visiting family and friends come to stay which has meant a huge hike in the shopping (and alcohol).
I've bought a lot of ready made food such as coleslaw, potato salad and bagged lettuce leaves and things like prepared fruit to take to the hospital rather than buying the fruit and peeling/chopping myself. Lots of lucozade and fruit juices. These are all things that I wouldn't normally bother with. In addition I've been working over 12 hour days, then hospital visiting so we've had a few takeaways too. Bit of a nightmare really.
All this is delaying the moment when I say that in July I have spent £655.88 on food, drink and takeways. In addition to DH, Me and the cat I have cooked an extra 75 evening meals for visiting family/friends over the course of the month. Some people have stayed for breakfast and lunch too. It's not too bad really after all .... is it?

I'm so glad this month is nearly over. July budget went completely out of the window and have ended up spending £270 thats £50 quid over my normal budget. Need to knuckle down and get back on track for August.Rebel No 220

I'm over budget now but as big shop was at the end of the month, I should make it up in August by not needing to do a big shop till September.0

As expected I went over budget by around £20 or £30. So no addition to the grocery savings pot this month.
August should be better though...I hope.Baby Year 1: Oh dear...on the move
