July '06 Grocery Challenge

I've found it useful to log all my purchases on a spreadsheet to show the quantity, cost and where I bought them (and keep running totals for the month). The ability of skinny old ladies to carry huge loads is phenomenal. An ant can carry one hundred times its own weight, but there is no known limit to the lifting power of the average tiny eighty-year-old Spanish peasant grandmother.0

If it counted with mine I would be seriously over budget every month:rotfl:
I know some folks do include it along with their petrol and other expenses, its you who decides the budget and what it includes.Rebel No 220 -
Perhaps I'll include cooking sherry (I only drink that when I'm really desperate)My Doctor told me that "1 out of 3 people who start smoking will eventually die." The other two apparently became immortal.

As usual I'm in again this month, it keeps me on the straight & narrow seeing other people stick to their budget and stops me overspending. Sticking with £200 from 30th June - 30th July for 2x Adults, 1x Teenage Boy & 1x 4 yr old. After alot of trial & error I have found this amount seems to be my comfort zone IYKWIM. This includes all food, milkman, laundry, toiletries & cleaning stuff.
Good luck to everyone.

My budget is supposed to start on the 1 July as the last month started on the 1 June. My budget was 175.00 and I overspent by at least 19 pounds and possibly more as I got myself in a right muddle. I try to keep my child benefit purely for my daughter but then I borrow from it and even though I try to keep a note it never seems to work! I also have to buy my father-in-laws shopping and again try to keep this money seperate by again I seem to get in a muddle with this too!! I was going to try and do a spending diary but with a 7 month old I don't seem to get round to it and then forget what I have spent. I think all the people in the local town must get very irritable with me for keeping them waiting whilst I go through 3 different purses to get the right money from the right person's kitty... anyway enough of the moans and groans. I am again going to try and not overspend my 175 budget and indeed I am going to try and come in under.
Please tell me that I am not the only one to get in such a muddle!:A ForOurFuture0 -

Hi all
Have been reading MSOS threads for several weeks and am feeling brave enough to join in!
It is so good to find likeminded people :T
I'm setting my budget for July at £140, this is for two of us and dd who will be moving out soon so maybe she won't count for whole of month.
I really enjoy reading the threads and you're all a good encouragement to me.
Thanks.0 -

This will be the first time I've done the challenge, although I did follow June's. I started the store cupboard challenge a couple of weeks ago and managed to get some great meals, but it does mean that I've now run out of most staples and have to do a large shop. Only me, so am planning for £25 a week for food, toiletries, etc. The month started 20th June and in the first week I spent £14!! Am sure I can cope on less than £25 but want a large margin for those times the chocolate calls!:D:hello:0

Ok so how much do you suggest I spend a month on food, toiletries and oh go on.... some alcohol. I thought about £100. Is that about right, too much or too little. I'm a single bloke, like cooking when I have time, work shifts which include nights and go to the gym 3-4 times per week. Oh and I'm always hungry!!!! I like some of the food in Aldi but its limited. I'm crap at budgeting that's why I'm in a mess debt wise.0
