There are tons of us who are in a position where we can't afford a hoilday, all for different reasons but none more important than the other. This gift has been given very publically and infront of faces of the group who are all in similar cirumstances. In my opinion this is favouritism. If people wished to give donations to a particular person, they should've done it privately and certainly not in full view of everyone else. Why on earth should such a generous gift be given in public?!
I think the lady who posted that meant no offence, maybe she only read back a few posts, and maybe that one stood out to her, and her offer to help out was in good faith and a lovely gesture imo..
I am sure many people didn't get this holiday but why be sorry for something you never had?Membre Of Teh Misspleing Culb0 -

I understand, I really do but it gripes me that it's being done so publically. Thank you for not taking my post completely the wrong way.Starlite wrote:I am sure many people didn't get this holiday but why be sorry for something you never had?
It's not that, it's the principle. Personally, I'm not being sorry for what I've not had but someone has been given preferential treatment because she missed out. I'm going to stress again, it's not the gift that's my gripe, it's the pubilicity of it.1 John 4: 7 & 80 -

Let's not take this out of context, if you want to though Bob Geldof publically helps a group not just one person.1 John 4: 7 & 80

Can one of the mods move this, as we are getting into a discussion and not talking about the Pontins holiday. We can enjoy our healthy debate elsewhere then and not hijack this thread!
I personally don't see the problem whether the offer was made via pm or in a public forum. It has actually being advantageous being in a public forum as other members have offered to donate because of this.
Would the person be complaining, or would refuse, such an offer of kindness if it were directed at them?0 -

Yes i would and did, noone is disputing it is a kind offer, but if u r going to offer money to one person publicly like this, it would seem unfair to others to not offer to everyone else in the same situation.
By no means am i resentful, i didnt originally post for that reason either.:j Baby boy Number 2, arrived 12th April 2009!:j0 -

So, for instance, you have never been on a holiday with your children and and a stranger who wanted nothing in return, but whom just took pleasure in knowing he/she has helped someone less fortunate than them, offered to pay for a well deserved break away for you and your family, you would turn it down??!!!!!
Whether it's down privately or in full view, someone is benefitting from someone elses kindness. Charities after all, when they give these holidays away, they take pics of the families on their holiday for their bulletins/promotional media etc.
You are entitled to your own opinion, but come on!!!
You can't help everyone, but by helping someone, we are on the way to making the world a better place.................
*drifts into Michael Jackson singing "heal the world, make it a better place........"*0
