Hi CAFCGirl, I've been lurking on the Paper Hat thread so thought I would finally come out and post on your new diary!
Just wanted to say keep your chin up and I think you're doing amazingly well. :A
This part of settling somewhere new, getting jobs etc is hard work but it will all be worth it when you have a lovely home for your family, OH is working in a job he really enjoys and you can concentrate on the littlun.
I do sympathise because Mr White & I moved to Australia a few years back having decided that we weren't unhappy with our life in the UK, but that if we didn't make a decision and take some action we would just drift on to old age without ever having gone off and had an adventure!
We arrived here with just a suitcase each, didn't know anyone, had never been here before and didn't know what or where anything was. 5 years later I have a job I'm happier in than any job I've ever had (although to be fair that's only been in the last few months, prior to that it was a bit hit and miss!), OH is also loving his job, we are building a new home and this year we are going to start trying for a baby (I'm 33 so had better get on with it!)
It will all come together for you too, it might just take a bit of time.
PS I'm a Southerner, but OH is a Geordie so we lived in Newcastle before we came to Melbourne! Melbourne is a beautiful city but I really loved living in Newcastle, and also despite everything we have here, I miss home and our families and friends pretty much every day. So I know it's easy for me to say, but try to make the most of sharing with your sister while you're there!
Hi Mrs White,

im in a better mood today
think i had a pregnancy melt yesterday.... no clothes fit, house stuff etc....
went to view another two houses..... first was pants but the second was really suitable, allows pets etc.
rent was cheap but deposit and fees were more than i expected..... we'd need like 200 just for fees!
Am tempted to contact them, since its been empty for a while and the landlord is getting desperate to let it.... to ask if he'd pay the fees, and we pay half deposit and then the other half later or something......
its just so much money to find at once.......
and i really need my wages from old boss... constructive job 1 for this afternoon will be sortig out gym refund....Wealth is not measured by currency0 -
hi cafcgirl glad you found a potential house - hope you manage to get the money together. Are you parents only prepared to help you buy a house - not to help you at this stage with renting while you look for a house? Or has that offer changed now?Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

This is the thing, deposit and first months rent all in one go when you haven't got your deposit back from the old place yet.
When the lady said I could pay the deposit in two parts, in two months, I thought great, I'll have time to get my deposit back from old place which will cover the deposit in the new place. But then when I paid the first part, she said the next with the first months rent when I move in and I was like . But I'll manage it somehow I guess.
I'd call and negotiate if I were you. If you don't ask, you don't get. Good luck!DEBT FREE OCTOBER 2012!Proud to have dealt with my debts!0 -
Good idea to negotiate - if the landlord is desparate they may well agree!Total (Aug 19):€58,567 Now:€26,947

Thats what I thought.....
We could potentially ask for fees paid, pay the first months rent, and say £150 deposit... so that would be £500 to find, which as soon as I get my wages back from old employer I'll have.....
I'm still trying to get my head around housing benefit, and when to apply etc. Obviously I dont want to commit to a tenancy agreement if we're not gonna get benefit as we couldt afford it..... (although possibility of DH getting job soon in which case it shouldn't be a problem).....
But its like ARGH! I dont know what to do..... need to get that cheque from old employer, and this old deposit is from 2007, as in I moved out in 2007!
Letting agents were ignoring me, and are now saying the landlord holds the deposit, not them, so emailed the landlord but no answer as yet..... sent it saturday, do you think its worth a re-send?Wealth is not measured by currency0 -

Defo re-send it. He owes you money from 2007. You ask the CAB about that as well. I'm sure he will stump up if you say you are contacting the CAB about this.Total (Aug 19):€58,567 Now:€26,947

ok quick update
Hubby was offered a job starting next monday, which he accepted even though hes not in love with the idea of working in a call centre.
But today he has his assessment day for paramedic so hopefully he'll passes that and the interviews are this mon-wed, so he could potentially find out if hes got that job before he starts at the call centre, which would be ideal!!!!
Got a few constructive jobs to do today:
Constructive Job No 1:Send relocation letter and copy of address for refund to be issued.
Constructive Job No 2:Print out copy of email that I sent to old landlord to physically post as well
Constructive Job No 3:Fill in online claim for JSA
Constructive Job No 4:Email letting agent with offer for house.
Had better get cracking!Wealth is not measured by currency0
