  • A couple of beauty money saving ideas:

If you have combination/dry skin then using a cold cream is a brilliant way of cleansing. I went through a phase of really dry skin and used Astral - both as a cleanser and as a moisturiser - and it was fantastic. I also used it as an aftersun as it really took out that bright red look I always seem to get after several seconds in the sun.....

Baby oil is great for shaving, especially if you have sensitive skin.

Sudocrem is great for spots. It won't dry out your skin (so you can slather it on if you're really suffering!) and can be found in the baby section of Boots.

Academies are a great place to get your hair cut. Toni and Guy L'Oreal and Saks (my personal favourite, not just because of the great service but also because the atmosphere is a lot more relaxed) all have academies dotted all over the place. If you google them you should be able to find them, but if not then feel free to PM me.

Baby shampoo is a wonderful make up brush cleanser.

Collection 2000 mineral powder is by far the best I've tried.

That's all I can think of for now but I'll come back with more if I think of any :)

do you know an OAP jennie? my mum gets 10% off in holland and barrat on fridays.

No way! I think my dad is an OAP (He gets a pension, but was retired from his job when he was still in his 50s, but not 100% if he is over 65 yet- that sounds awful doesn't it? I don't know how old my own dad is!!) Am getting through mammoth amounts of protein bars at the moment and this could make a difference!

And the moisturisers would be useful too;)

I'm like that with the Beauty Steal book too! Unfortunately I feel as though I can justify my spending because it's a 'steal' :D

I tend to be a bit cynical on those books- they do have a website and I am sure ther has to be much of the stuff on their site if not elsewhere online.

Have you tried your local library? they may be able to order it in for you. Also you can get reductions on their books on Amazon. I like what they do, like the site but also take anything a beauty professional says with a pinch of salt, you don't know who is paying thier bills at the end of the day. I'd rather trust someone I know and have known for a while, a friend or family member. More likely to be honest!

Ah- all those creams give me spots unfortunetly- even the sudo cream- mineral oils!

The Toni & Guy thing is great though isn't it? I get my hair done in there whenever I have the time free! I've only been the the L'Oreal a handful of times, I never know when they need people- but where is the Saks academy? that sounds like a great idea!

Hi everyone:) Went to H&B the other day but they don't stock Jason stuff so went to the local wholefood shop, they had a medium range with 15% off, I decided to persevere with the OCM but bought some Jason Vit E oil, the light one, I've used it a couple of times now and I can see an improvement:) The range really is good value, has anyone tried their shower gels and hair care? I'm tempted:rolleyes:Thanks for the advice:)
Thank you for this site Martin

Oh that's a shame with the sudocrem :( I'm about to start the oil cleansing method so will report back with the results....not that there's a shortage of reports on here! Have you tried using Liz Earle spot stick? It's very gentle and easy on the skin, however it's not great if you're in a rush to get rid of the spot as it slowly and gentley heals it. Great if you're trying to avoid any scarring though.

I had a great cut at Toni and Guy, the only problem was that I didn't like the whole conveyer belt approach to it, but it's a cheap cut at the end of the day so I am just being fussy.

Saks is on Tower Street, about a 5 minute walk from Leicester Square station, just off Monmouth Street. That's assuming you're in London? If not then there are some other Saks academies dotted around the country. I think if you google Saks Health and Beauty, on the main page there's a link to the academies with the telephone number etc.

    Hi Glowgirl:

yes, I've used a variety of the creams and shower gels, and I think they compare favourably with other similar products. I am lucky I can get access to the full range so I can smell what I'm buying etc first. I like the rose shower gel quite a bit (and a couple o others, but can't remember which), but I think it depends what you want from it: its nice, clean, light scent with a feel good ''natural'' factor. If the natural/chemical thing is important than they really would be worth trying I think.

I think, apart from the vit e (persevere for the thick one, it is REALLY hard to find but one of my desert island things, for my lips alone, it might be too heavy for your skin though if I remember rightly, but worth having for lips!) the facial stuff is...ok. Personally, its where science wins over nature for me and I go back to somewhere like Estee Lauder.

I've used better Aloe vera than theirs (In fact I've just pulled out a jason aloe vera gel as a must finish thing.), and I haven't used shampoos/conditioners.

The thing with Jason products is, unlike many others, I'd be prepared to try anything offered to me to try, whch I think is a recommendation of sorts in itself. I've never suffered a nasty reaction or hatred to a product, its just some are less...inspiring than some equivalents.
