That wouldn't work for some reason.

Whilst I understand some of the restrictions, some are a pain. I can't get the games such as patience etc to be available nor can I install microsoft Offic e. Both I would have thought useful.

thats the reason why i took off netintelligent as it does block a lot , and as long as you monitor your kids your fine , our child is monitored and has been shown and told about the dangers of being on the net

I have taken off net intelligence because my daughter has a facebook account plus it block so may sites and makes it hard for them to do proper research.

Like others they are always supervised and know which sites not to go on.

Andyfrank...have you managed to get the games then?

yes wrong post lol but i think you understood me
it just seems like some are already abusing the system
can not think for the life of me why someone would apply for the
mobile broadband when there is already a connection in the house
i just think that , that extra FREE broadband as it was descibed could have
gone to another family as this scheme is limited
but they dont want to share there connection as it slows the mega downloads down , mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm can totally see why some people get annoyed as it dont seem fair
but not only that they then have the cheek to question people as to why they dont fix there own pcs or give up on old ones

The PC in my household is my own which I let the family use but there are 5 of us in the house and not everyone can go on when they want. Getting a laptop enables my sister to study in the comfort of her own room, in peace with no distractions if she wishes to do so. It also ensures that there is a computer free for doing homework on and other things.

The 10MB connection is shared among a computer, mobile device and PS3. I also do a lot of downloading which slows down the Internet a lot so my mum thought it was a good idea to get a separate broadband (which currently is unusable with 1 signal bar)

Do not combine me with the rest of the family. It's because of me that the family has a computer in the first place but now they have their own. It's because of me that they have a wireless Internet connection as I provided the £55 for the router. If you think my mum is abusing the system, so be it but I know is that laptop will be used for learning and homework like it's intended for and the dongle will come in handy while my sister or mum is away from the home (out of range of the 10mb)

andyfrank ...did you pick the wrong post to quote? :)

However I agree with you. In fact with so much computer knowledge surely they could have built one themselves!

I did build one myself, back in 2000, the PC is ugraded every few years but the PC is mine and it's my mother who is applying for her daughters.

Omg the amount of problems these machines seem to have, hopefully everyone will be able to help each other out. I constantly have my friend on the phone, lol, asking for help. It is ridiculous.

First MSOFFICE - took 2 days or being persistent to finally download the trial. Open office had to be uninstalled first btw. THen it was a case of each time the error came back, went back onto ms site and started again. Then finally using the not downloading bit, it finally sorted itself.

Netintelligence was the first thing to go. Went to do some homework and half the sites were blocked, so that seemed pointless. After spending 3 hours trying to unblock various sites, it was deleted. Also stupid as the parent account was also blocked from things like FB.

THen we did lol because there are no games installed. Should be, but there isn't. Went to the control panel, programs and went to turn off/on windows programs. Wouldn't accept. Don't know why, because it seems daft because there is the web that has loads of games anyway.

Now Itunes. Before people start about people on benefits having ipods etc, well some people used to work, or have nice friends. lol. Gave her my old shuffle, but cannot download Itunes. Keep hitting an error page. So looks like not going to be able to load the ipod, or put on music until comes here. And lets face it, when you have your own laptop, why do you want to keep going to friends houses.

Oh and for the mail. Outlook stopped working ages ago, least I remember reading something along those lines when I tried to instal it on my vista. Again another problem though.

Tried installing windows live mail with everything else they give you. You guessed it, failed because of errors. So the windows live mail had to be installed on its own. If you go to windows 7 page online, there is a link for it on there. This was the only way it could be installed.

Oh and another thing about the netintelligence. Some of the homework gets handed in online, through the schools own site. All secure, all legit, etc. A lot of schools are using this type of software, but, netintelligence blocks the site. lol. Tried one of my dd's school site and had the same blocked.

Well all I can say is pity the poor person who buys one cheap on ebay. Won't be able to do much on it!

Just read my posts back, lol, and we sound like we are really complaining (my mate and I), but we are not. Her and the children are very grateful for this. It's just daft that something that, even without the net access isn't cheap, half the stuff you can do on a cheaper model, you cannot do on these machines. THey would have been better just giving everyone one of those Elonex netbooks.
Yes I know that they are for students to do homework, but how they were marketed was for all the family. So this should include mum/dad using facebook. Shopping at whereever. Charging gadgets etc.
No doubt the more they are used, the more problems people will find with them and stumble across more errors. Not even tried putting a printer on, lol, dreading that call. Although some things you wouldn't expect it to do because of the limitations, it can like connecting to networks. Had the kids over at the weekend, connected it to my network and was able to stream films from it to the xbox.

Haha, I was thinking the same about Ebay and all the come back the sellers are going to have.
