I have ordered my computer today from positive IT.. they say about 5 day for delivery, my daughter cant wait, as our PC is close to packing in completely!!

Packing in? Why don't you fix it? What is wrong with it? It sounds like you're going to abandon it without getting to the issue.

sometimes old age is enough of a reason. My beloved pc is now 9 years old, ex has a degree in IT and built it in the first place so knows it inside out, but even he admits it's beyond help now.

Our kids were bought a PC a few years back. It now sits in our loft.
So why don't we fix it?

1/ We don't have any idea about PCs

2/ We don't have the money to pay someone else to do it.

Unfortunately not everyone is a computer techie person.

Exactly thanks to the above posters. This computer is 6 years old, some keys dont work, and I cant afford to get it fixed. The man in the computer shop told me it would cost more to fix then to buy a new one.
    Mum of 5 lovely chidren.:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Why not sell the PC on eBay? get some money back? Explain you don't know what is wrong with it, someone will buy it. Usually PC problems are software based, which is very easy to fix.

When I applied I already had my Laptop, and Wifi from Sky, I still got one for my eldest as I think they want all Children to have full access for home work, I didn't take out the interent option with mine though, they do take in to account how many people are in the house so you should get one too.

It is worth applying even if you are a bit unsure, just ring them up I found them really helpful and they will talk you through anything your unsure of.
you are taking away a chance for the people who don't even have 1 computer in the house, as there is only a limited amount of money. some people cannot afford a computer or a connection.
and it seems you even have sky tv!!!!!!!

I know that what I'm about to say isn't going to be popular but I'm going to say it anyway.

With the country in the economic mess that it's in we really can't afford this scheme.

I work in Oldham, where the pilot took place, and so have been able to see the scheme at close hand. If you "loose" your laptop it will be replaced (but only once). The majority of children, when given access to a computer, just play games or chat on them. The idea behind the scheme is to provide access to a computer where the household is so poor that they wouldn't already own one. As can be seen from posts in this thread, some of the applicants already have computers in their household. There are many parents who would love to be able provide their children with a separate computer but they can't afford it (& they won't qualify under this scheme) so they share their computer. I wonder how many of these laptops will end up on ebay?
yes completely agree, its sounds like some already have 2-3 computers already!

due to illness we now qualify for this, however i used to build computers for a living so dont really require their support and i have all the software that my children need on disc at home, so i do believe you should be able to take off some of these extras and be able to spend more on a better spec computer, surely the computer will be covered by a 12 months manufacturers guarantee anyway?
some people will undoubtedly need more help than us but i think you should be able to opt in
yes it seems like you get a £250-350 computer for £528 the dongle is £180 but i have been offered it at £10 a month thats £120.
maybe these companys are ripping the govement off!

How did you manage to uninstall NetIntel? I have been told you need a password. We have set up all the settings in this program for parent and learner, last night parent accessed facebook, today when we tried acess denied again. I've been told it even blocks Wikipedia which my daughter uses quite alot for research in school work!! Should we try to get rid of it?

your laptop should have come with a piece of paper inside with login details , theres 2 accounts set up on ours when it arrived
parent and learner there was a password for the parent which was welcome
i went into the settings and changed the name and pass to our own
further down on the sheet of paper is instuctions for netintelligence
    with a activation key
before you can uninstall netintelligence you have to activate it
you then go into the prog and look for uninstall , and you will then find instructions on how to uninstall and there will be another code number to use to uninsatll it ,i did it first time with no probs and didnt need to call IT positive or anyone , but it must be set up before it can be removed with a username and password ...hope this helps
