Contract - do I have any rights?

Trolls are in a feeding frenzy tonight.
Look at the terms of your residence.
Make a log of every time it's broken by other residents.
Noise, lack of security, anything that you shouldn't do, but the others are doing to upset you.
Use this to follow BlueAngelCV's advice, and then move out as they have broken the terms.0 -

Forgive me if I'm wrong but aren't students there to STUDY as well as go out drinking all the time. And study would usually require some peace and quiet.
I would write to the accomodation office setting out your position, that you are unable to live there and that the accomodation that they have provided is not satisfactory. Sometimes it's better to do these things in writing so that there's a record of exactly what you've said.
Oh and ask them to get the Police station moved too.0 -
BlueAngel & Mikey you really need to read this thread in more detail. sh1305 is an AE. Mikey stop throwing the troll word around where it doesn't apply and when you clearly have just skimmed this thread as you have somehow missed that the OP has mentioned more than once that they have alredyalready moved out.0

It sounds more like the fault of the building than the fault of the students. I've lived in various student halls in the past in both London & Bath and some were far better built so you were not disturbed by neighbours and others must have been built with basic chipboard walls rather than solid concrete or brick, same for floors as well.0

I'm not sure with your halls bit I lived in student halls for 2 years and if there was excessive noise, there was a number we could call to complain. Then the night security would come and investigate (usually about 2 mins after I had made the call) and ensure they were quieter. It was pretty effective.
I would go to the halls office and ask them if they do a similar thing at your halls
Regarding the stolen food, put some laxatives in some of the food being stolen. That will teach them a lesson they wont forget in a hurry.
With regards to terminating the contract, you probably wouldnt be able to. Although a friend of mine decided to terminate her halls contract and move somewhere else a few months into uni and ended up paying both rents. I asked her to write a letter to the halls of residence and they agreed to terminate the contract but took her deposit as they themselves found someone else to move in0 -

Why do I need to read this thread in more detail? I've read it thanks. What has the fact that it's an AE got to do with anything?Oh and ask them to get the Police station moved too.
Oh and did I say anything about the police station?! I was simply providing sensible and helpful advice to the OP. I thought that was the purpose of the thread rather than coming on and being obnoxious.Wedding 5th September 20150 -

I’ve just very nearly sprayed my pc with blackcurrant juice:pWow, I got 3 *, when did that happen :j:T:p
It is not illegal to open another persons mail unless you intend to commit fraud - this is frequently incorrectly posted
I live in my head - I find it's safer there:p

Oh and ask them to get the Police station moved too.
There'll be a thread asking about that soon from the OP no doubt.
I've just spent half an hour or so following the various links to this poster-and my advice is ...*drum roll*..
Dry your eyes..and grow a pair!! I've never saw such a self-centred, self pitying whinger in all my life!
I'm not in the habit of being rude or antagonistic on t'interwebs but really, words fail me! Sorry to others who are offended, but this one gives truly disabled people a bad name.:mad:Ruaridh Armstrong-missing since 05/11/11. Come home old boy-we miss you x

1. Have you actually asked the noisy people to keep the noise down a bit? Student Halls are ALWAYS noisy!
2. If someone is stealing your food, buy yourself a mini fridge for your room.
3. Lie on your side, then put another pillow on top of your head to muffle the sound. Also, get a white noise CD, or relaxing music, and put it on loop to play all night and block out the noise.
Life is full of irritations, but rather than running away from them (like you appear to be doing), sometimes it's a good learning experience to adapt.
Try making lots of noise at 8am, and maybe the others will realise how noise travels, and make more effort to keep the noise down at night.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
Can you ask to be moved? Certainly not all students roll in at 3am.. where I live (in halls) its mostly quiet after midnight. I know in other buildings they have all night parties though.0
