I think i need to sit down and think what i want to do. is it a degree or postgraduate study.

You need to do more than that.

You need to work out what career path you want to go into. Talk to people in the industry with the jobs you are interested in to find out the real details.

Then you need to decide how you can get there as there may be no point in doing a degree at all.

For example if you are interested in becoming an accountant you are better of finding a local accountant who can take you on to do a minimum wage job and then start to study ACCA qualifications in your free time. Once you get more experience and more qualifications you can progress.

Also if you say take the OU route you still need to find a job while studying. Again you need to try and find a local employer who will take you on to get some experience but this time after you have passed a few modules.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

I rang my uni up and spoke to an advisor. Purely on finance basis she told me to choose the masters course.

Bear in mind that that the university's advisor won't necessarily be offering unbiased advice as part of their role will be to fill their courses!

I'm going to be honest and suggest that a Master's degree from Derby is not going to be a magic key to a golden future and, almost certainly not worth what it's going to cost you to do!

Is that because its Derby lol

I know two people that work in the computing industry so i am going to give them a call later this evening.

So if i was to do a masters, avoiding derby is the key?

I know nothing about Derby's credentials as a computing department, that is something you would need to look in to.

I don't really go on rankings, tbh. They don't really tell anything concrete and use such arbitrary (and often out of date) data to deem them next to worthless. I would ask people in industry, other academics, etc.

The rule of thumb is to avoid the bottom 25 universities.

If anyone still riddicules a uni above that, then it is just snobby nonsense, pure and simple.

Moreover, what could be rated very low as a uni on a whole, could be rated very highly for the one subject that you are doing.

I just had a long call with the OU.

The nice chap goes that they might be able to transfer some credits from my business degree if i want to do a new degree.

Also for postgraduate study, £10,000 cost.

I am going to ring a friend who works in the industry. Find out a bit more about what he does and the opportunities available.

Thanks all for your advice. I feel like this thread has given me the right platform to research more into what i want to do in the future. Otherwise i might have done something stupid and signed up for any course without any thought.
