School closures are snow joke

Im posting a reply on here a bit late. The teachers dont make the decisions to close the school, its the heads decision to close it. A clsoure is doen with the childrens safety at mind as well as any stafff etc. OP your not the only person to have been affected by teh weather, theres other parents out there who have had the same situation as yourself and theres also single parents who have had the same problem.0

Come on people, the OP was only stating his opinion, there is no need to call him a prat or get too personal.
Whilst I agree that the schools should be closed for child/ teacher and everyone's safety, I think people need to also remember that a lot of workers don't have a choice. I was only "allowed" to have today off because my manager phoned me and told me so. If she had said I had to be in, then I would have to, children or no children. And to people who may want to answer "Tell your manager this or that" this is a recession, I have ratings at work, so it's not so easy to just say no.
I wouldnt dream of calling anyone a pratt, just as I wouldnt call a teacher a skiver. As the OP deemed to use that word (skiving) then he/she must be prepared to take the backlash.RIP TJ. Wish my kids school had closed today 0 -
It's total paranoia about being sued.
The school/local authority don't dare let anyone in if there is the slightest chance of a slip that will result in someone getting sued.
Blame the daytime TV hell of "have you had a slip or fall" adverts
Heh..."paranoia" implies they're imagining it. Schools and teachers really are sued by angry parents, with frightening regularity. This is the logical endpoint of blame culture: a situation where nobody in a position of authority in the public sector dares take responsibility for anything. We're not quite there yet, but education seems to be on the bleeding edge."There may be a legal obligation to obey, but there will be no moral obligation to obey. When it comes to history, it will be the people who broke the law for freedom that will be remembered and honoured." --Rt. Hon. Tony Benn0 -
OP why don't you retrain and become a teacher? Then all your gripes can be answered and your tax including the 47% portion of your council tax would be paid to the authorities to in turn, pay you. That way you would probably wouldn't have to munch on so many sour grapes either.0

Just out of interest, if the weather is so bad, what is stopping teachers turning up at their local school and offering to fill in for teachers who live so far away and have been unable to make it in? After all, they are all trained professionals and have the appropriate CRB checks, and if it is only for a day or two I am sure lesson plans will not go out of the window?
That is a genuine question - not a dig at teachers BTW.0 -

Let's face it, the lesson plans won't go out the window if the children have a couple of days off either."There may be a legal obligation to obey, but there will be no moral obligation to obey.
