Obviously I desperately need to exercise my upper body to keep my heart strong (I have never been overweight). Any thoughts please? ...

    Hello,

I have sent you a PM with some ideas. :)

Count me in! Need to do something about the fact that I can no longer fit in my best jeans or work trousers so could really do with a challenge like this to get myself in gear.

I'd like to join you too please! I only learnt to swim early last year and was really motivated swimming three times a week up until December. Then I got lazy and stopped going. I tried to keep fit using various dvd's. Some weeks I would do them quite regularly, but most of the time I was lucky if I did them once!:o margaretclare and SandC, reading your posts has made me motivated to go swimming again!
I went back for the first time on Thursday morning (I did feel a bit silly, as I was getting quite worried about it, god knows why!). I only managed 20 lengths of front crawl in 30 minutes, although 5 minutes was spent catching up with people I hadn't seen for a while. I used to do 40 lengths in 30 minutes, so am hoping to get back to that as soon as I can and then maybe beyond. My goal is to do 64 lengths, which will be a mile. Am going to try and go on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday morning :D

Welcome to this! In fact it doesn't matter what you do so long as you put some effort into it. As I said, doing front paddle using the woggle really does use the belly muscles and those down the side into the back, all that stretching and pulling. I can't do front crawl yet, I'm still learning to get my face out of the water when doing front paddle without the woggle. All that reaching and stretching really does pull on the long muscles.

FireyFaerie, could it be what you eat which is at fault? In the early 60s when I had 2 littlies I was the slimmest I've ever been in my life. Running around for me, in those days, included packing them into a push-chair and walking half a mile to the village to make a phone call. I certainly didn't have a 'mummy tummy' then. But every time we go out I see women half my age with a belly that sticks out the same as their backsides. If they sat down they wouldn't be able to put their legs together, the rolls of belly would hang down in between.

Just been reading about the Dukan diet as advertised in the 'Daily Mail'. Apparently Dr Dukan prescribes half an hour walking a day. Not an option - a prescription. Well, I think I'll try that - when it stops raining!

Just been reading back on here, can't believe I joined the thread 9th March 2010 and now here I am up to 8/9/ even 10 times per week.

Think I may go off and join another of the exercise threads as this one is so quiet, but if folks come back again, best of luck with it.

    Hi All,

Not been very good for the past few weeks. Had a fall and hurt my shoulder which has really limited what I could do. Also now having problems with my hip - find my body so frustrating sometimes.

Anyway need to do something, so off to the gym this afternoon to see how I get on.

SandyC - agree this thread is very quiet and you are doing so much now you have 'outgrown' it. Thank you for all of your advice - you are an inspiration.

Just an hour cycle ride for me so far this week. Going for a swim later so that will make 2.

I have tried Zumba PP - really enjoyed it, but found it so fast it was hard to keep up. Must try it again.
  • Started kettlebells 1st Sept and am going 3 times a week. 4 times a week from next week :D Alternating upper (cleans, deadlifts, presses) and lower (swings, squats, lunges) workouts.

    Mon: upper
    Tue: lower
    Wed: rest
    Thu: upper
    Fri: lower
    Sat&Sun: rest :)

    Anyone else doing kettlebells?
